CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!?? I have been a quad for almost 7 yrs. For the first 4 yrs my bp was 100/60 and I had UTI's but that was it. For the past 3 yrs i have had flare ups of pain on my right side that is always accompanied by blood pressue issues. The pain is constant once the flare up occurs and my blood pressure changes to 70/40 but when i pee the pain becomes a sharp stabbing pain and my autonomic dysreflexia kicks in and shoots my bp up to 140/100. It is NOT a UTI as i have been checked many times. My legs don't swell up and I know to get up slow because that can cause it to drop. I drink lots of fluids so i'm not dehydrated... i have had 2 dr.'s tell me that they will never figure it out! They want me to take pain killers which doesn't solve my problem just masks it so i refuse! my bp keeps getting lower every time this happen, i feel like i'm going to fade away, PLEASE HELP!

Don't you have a specialist spinal consultant??

Or perhaps a v good Urologist WHO UNDERSTANDS SPINAL NUROGENIC BLADDERS, KIDNEY ISSUES ETC!

Ultra sound?? Kidney stones?? A long list of "possibilities". Lots need ruling out!
Life is just to short not to have fun!

could be your appendix just having flare-ups, if you are a woman it could be a pelvic problem, it could be constipation or possibly gall or kidney stones

Please demand more specialized testing along the lines others suggest. It is difficult to push and be your own advocate, but just get mad. It helps.

I could be way off on this but I'll give it a shot....

My boyfriend, T10 complete, has been complaining for about 3 years about pain in his right side flank (lower back). MRI's, CAT scans, etc all reveal nothing. He has constant UTI's, too. This week is his 4th antibiotic infusion since I have known him (August 2010). Last week he had yet another CAT or MRI scheduled. He was told he could not have it done because he had broken hardware on his right side. He has a Harrington rod and it looks like one of the 'fishing lines' (for lack of a better word) that holds it in place has snapped. The wire could be what has been causing him pain. He needs to see a neurologist (I think) to have it checked out.

So...do you have a Harrington rod?
