Hi, I'm doing and have been doing peristeen for about 6 months and I moved on to every other day routine in the morning, I think the water helps but doesn't really bring anything down that I can see so then I do a good 10 mins and get a good result but what I find is it's hard stool mixed with watery stuff probably off the water mixing with it but I'm thinking whaen do you know that there's no more to come? How long do I Digstim for? I've had no major accidents so far as of yet but it's always been on my mind, anyone got any ideas? Thanks

From what I'm told, after you feel stool and nothing else, you do it for five minutes after to make sure there is nothing else. If you feel more within that five minutes, then after getting it out you go another five minutes. That was what Shepherd Center told me. I've only had two instances of bowel accidents since July of last year, and I think those had more to do with bad butter at the movie theater as my friends got sick.

Thanks I got told a similar thing but was unsure, I usually end up doing that sort of 5 min routine but by accident, just seems it keeps coming :P and I think when do I stop but does sort of get to a point where I think I can't sit here all morning doing this and it kind of calms down by then.
how much of the bowel can you empty using digstim anyway?

I didn't know about the 5 minute thing, it was never suggested to me!

I irrigate every other day, because I just don't want it to dominate every evening. How I do it is start by manually evacuating as much as I can (because there's always stool sitting there), pop the catheter in and start pumping. The most water i've ever got in in one go is just 300ml - any more than that and I bypass the inflated balloon and all the water. So, after the first go I have to manual evac, then repeat the whole thing twice more. Even over 3 goes, i'm only getting a total of 6-700ml in, so i'm not clearing out as much as I want to - really annoying. I wish I could just pump all the water in in one go, have it stay there for a few minutes and then release the water along with all the stool - this is how I thought it would be, but it's just not happened like that. Oh well, better than nothing!

As for knowing when to stop, I think everyone's different. Sometimes, when i've done my 3 goes and think i'm empty, i'll check and find some stool high up, out of my reach, so I just leave it and hope it stays there until the next irrigation!

ye it doesnt go the way should in the video, i feel that i can put more water in sometimes more than others but i aim for 600ml, i think it says something about up 750ml the most to use or something like that, but find constipation causes less water being put in and it bypasses the balloon if not popping it. be good to get a bowel scanner like the bladder one :P
