Hi,

I have a suprapubic catheter and until recently I was using Coloplast's "cyphone bag". I found this great because it had a very long emptying tube so I could empty it myself - keep it tucked under my trousers/skirt, pull it out and empty it into a toilet or a bottle if necessary. Well Charter Healthcare who supply my stuff told me recently that this product has been discontinued, so I am now faced with the prospect of needing help to empty my bag which is a bugger because I had got really used to doing it myself. I am thinking maybe there are techniques I could use to empty it myself but there are a few problems: if I wear trousers they would have to be loose ones so I could pull them up myself, and then I probably wouldn't be able to get them down properly again. Wearing a skirt means my legs get colder unless I wear leggings/tights as well which brings the same problem as with the trousers. I wonder whether there is a similar product to the cyphon bag. I just did a search with google and found the Coloplast one on several websites with no mention of it being discontinued. Does anyone here use that bag? Maybe it's just in the UK it's being discontinued. I'm pretty angry about it and not sure what I'm going to do. I do have care but had got really used to managing this myself and I don't want to have someone around just for that. Has anyone got any ideas?

When something has worked for so long, change is difficult, especially for us. However, if you keep researching the suppliers I think you can come up with a workable answer. Long plastic tube to the ankle under the pants and tucked into a sock, short plastic tube tucked into the waist that you can pull out the tuck back in similar to what you were doing. Or, maybe some completely new set up that will work even better once you get used to it. Keep looking and you will find something. Best Wishes.
