Hi All,

I've posted a few times in the past on here discussing about a little gremlin called a 'uti' i've been having them now on and off the past 24 months my specialist is putting it down to that my bladder might not be fully emptying as i void using a leg bag, i'm on medication to help my bladder empty fully and they are trying this way because i can't do catheters because my right arm and hand are paralysed (brachial plexus)from my accident.
My main question is i still get uti's but for some strange reason i don't get any symptoms like headaches, aches or hot sweats etc i only really know by the strong smell from my urine, i told my specialist about this and he is happy just to go along with it with no antibiotics and not worry about it because i'm not showing any symptoms, but i'm not happy because if the e-coli bug is in me surely it could do more damage long term.

I don't have the answer to your question, but I do know your doctor should be worried about the infection because it can move from your bladder to your kidneys. A UTI is nothing to trifle with. This doctor needs to get a reality check or you need to get another doctor.

Thanks for the reply,
I do agree with you but i can't understand why i'm not getting the symptoms, as i said my urine is very smelly but its not a dark or bloody colour and i drink around 6 pints of water a day.

Do you drink soft drinks or coffee along with your water? Have you considered drinking some cranberry juice maybe a glass daily? I can tell you from experience that if you are unable to empty your bladder completely the urine left inside will begin to grow bacteria.....and of course UTI. I would also try pressing on your bladder to help empty it, maybe a little massage during the day will help you get some of the stored urine.

Good luck I hope this helps.

Smelly urine could be because of UTI, dehydration, liver disorders, diabetes, asparagus and pregnancy. Now, considering you are a man I am doubting pregnancy is the reason. Also, I don't think you are eating asparagus every single day (but who knows, maybe you really like it?) When the urine is both cloudy and smelly, it could be because of some UTI or bladder infection.

It sounds like you need to explore these other possiblities with your doc (if you haven't already).

Hello,
I'm suffering from my first UTI since the late 90s. It hit me out of No where, with No warning signs at all. My urine has been crysle clear, almost No oder for ever!
It was crysle clear, without Oder all day this past Sunday, until 8 pm when a lot of blood was in it.
I was just checked for stones in October, and had none.
How this UTI came on so fast, so severe with no warning signs, has me and the Doctor confused.
I have No chills or fever, and it hasn't made me more spastic as past UTIs' always have. All I have is severe discomfort that didn't start until the day after.

Hello aprilia95,

Most doctors don't like giving antibiotics unless you're running a fever or experiencing more symptoms so that your body doesn't get immune to antibiotics. They only like to use them for the really bad UTIs. If you think ecoli is the bug , D-Mannose is something that can be taken to help with that. I take it daily as a preventative and it works great for me. Some on here take Vit. C and or drink lemonade. Try your best to stay flushed by drinking lots of purified water. Tap water can cause problems depending on the water source. Stay away from or at least limit the amount of Cokes/sodas you drink.

I wonder if you have maybe hurt yourself with a catheter?
If you straight cath it's possible you have may have hit a kink in your tubes, a dead end if you like, especially if you went from clear to blood so fast.
Is this a possibility?

hmm, I am not sure. One thing you might want to try is cranberry juice or pills. That might help with utis that is what I take anyways.

Hi and thanks to you all for the replies,
I have read through many of the posts on uti's on here and i think obviously my main concern is sorting out the problem of fully emptying my bladder but for now im going back to the docs as soon as i can to get some antibiotics to get rid of this infection and then i'm going to try the D-Mannose, i'll take it daily and see how it goes and get back to you all to tell you how i'm doing.
But thanks again for all your help.

When you go to the doctors, be sure they do a culture test on your urine. That way you'll be sure to get the correct antibiotic. I have been to some who just prescribe a med. without testing or prescribe the wrong med. before the test results come back.

If the culture is over 100,000 parts per Billion, the Dr usually will order an antibiotic even if you have no unpleasant symptoms. Because that's considered a full blown infection.

hello goose

I wonder if you could help me with D-Mannose,I live in South Africa and nobody's has heard of it here could you give me some technical details of the information sheet so that I could try and source it at a local pharmacy?
I get lots of urinary tract infections and it is virtually always e-coli.

Did your urologist send your urine culture to a lab to test exactly what strain of infection you have? Since you've had it for this long, they should be giving you antibiotics more long term, like a two WEEK period, not just two or three DAYS worth.

I was dealing with a situation similar to yours a year ago where my primary doctor was only giving me antibiotics like cipro and something else (I can't remember right now what the other med was) for a 3 day stretch at a time. Inevitably, the UTI would come back within a week or so, until I finally saw a really good urologist who put me on penicillin twice a day for two weeks. I was finally bug free after that. Good luck to you.

I order my D-Mannose online from Progressive Labs...Kordial Nutrients and ask for the 25% discount (I saw an add in New Mobility Magazine) On Tract combo capsules is the name I order. It also contains some other natural additives like white willow bark, Cermtin, Cratavin and a few more.

Another member gets theirs from Puritian Pride online.

A google search may find a source closer to you.

I started right after a round of antibotics but I don't take them at the same time. I can really tell a difference but I also drink LOTS of purified water.

I don't straight Cath or have an internal Cath. I'm able to do the Crede method of pushing the urine out by baring down. I wear a condom Catheter! Finally after 8 days of Cipro I'm almost totally better!

In 30 years with a SCI I Never heard of Only taking antibiotics for less then 7 to 10 days! If you don't kill the infection, it will grow resistant to antibiotics.
That would leave the world with Super Bugs that Antibiotics Can't kill.

My urologist was curious as to why my primary doctor only prescribed it for three days he said that was a waste.
