I've got a scrip for an adjustable bed which my doc thinks will help relieve my AD symptoms. First, can anyone recommend a good adjustable bed/mattress provider and, second; Will insurance Medicare pay for any or all of the cost? Thx.

I need a queen for the wifey and me, adjustable head and feet but not necessarily the height. I'm hoping that I will be able to use the existing frame. What type of mattress would you recommend; air, memory foam, latex? I really appreciate your input. Thanks.

^ Mattress depends on whether or not you can take turns/perform activities by yourself, and the average time you're gonna spend on the bed. According to my experience, air mattresses are the best ones to prevent pressure sores, very effective even if you're gonna lie down for long hours.
PS: they are VERY delicate and even after a lot of precautions they don't last more than 1 - 1.5 yrs (atleast mine don't)

Everyone is disabled in some way. For the people in wheelchairs, it's just more obvious

Alot of adjustable bed frames are available where beds are sold. They come with adjustable head or feet or both. You pick the mattress that you prefer.
I've always slept on a normal mattress without any kind of special topper and never had any kind of problem.
Depending on how you roll over...by yourself or with help may determine what kind of mattress would work best. I tend to get stuck in memory foam making it harder to roll over. If possible, go to the show room and try them out. I know the sleep number bed can be adjusted on both sides and anytime.
As for medicare, you can file a claim yourself. You may need alittle help filling out the paper work. You'll need the code number , a doctors prescription and a claim form. Medicare should assist you with this or a local durable medical co. (if they know you). May can google it.
One word of advice...on the claim form there is a place for medical history or diagnosis...really go overboard with details.
With alittle bit of homework and creativeness, you can file it yourself.

Hello Rick,
My wife and I got a bed from these people. http://www.goldenrest.net/ I had a script from my GP and took it to my DME. She ordered the queen sized Golden Power bed (without height feature) and I paid the difference between it and a hospital bed. It also had a massage feature that my wife loves. I have no regrets and we both love the bed.
I hope this helps.
