The other day i started to feel 'pressure' on the left side of my knee, seeing as how i usual dont feel my legs... it kind of worried me when it started to really hurt and got sensitive to touch. After waiting 11 hours at the hospital the doctors told me they idnt know what was wrong... it can be so frustrating when doctors dont know about sci.. it feels like ligament damage(im not sure because i cant describe the pain like a normal person) but they told me that if it was to just come back in 2 weeks if it continued to hurt. They said to put my leg on a splint to keep me from bending the knee... the problem with that is... im in chair all day (dressing, transfers, et). In the end they pretty much told me I couldnt do anything about it... i was so frustrated after waiting for so long, im still not even sure whats wrong with my leg.. anybody have knee problems?

Hello,
I have serious knee problems. Although mine I know is from having wore out all my cartilage. I'd request a MRI, so they can see clearly if it's anything serious. And also have an Ultra sound done to rule out any chance of an unknown Clot. Their serious!

I'm Not a Doctor!
I'm just going by my experience. Good luck!

Did the pain seem to come on by itself?

And, Zack, sorry for what may seem like a dumb question, but how did you wear out all the cartilege in your knees?

Lou05 - I hope it turns out to be something very minor and resolves very quickly. Please post what you find out. Thanks.

I hyperextended my left knee in my accident back in 2000. Since I've been paralyzed ever since then, my knee has remained hyperextended. This causes me to experience pain when I straighten my left leg (for whatever reason), if I'm not careful to take steps to cushion it underneath. Standing chairs are hard because of this as well. Sometimes just day to day stuff will cause me to move my leg in a way that makes it hurt, sometimes quite badly. I hope you find out what's causing your pain and get some relief.

My pain came gradually getting worse. I had an old football injury that running 5 painful miles a day in the Marine Corp made worse. It's something I choose to live with. The VA hospital offered reconstructive knee surgery, that I believe from my history with them, that they just wanted to give a new orthopedic Surgeon practice!
How was I to rehab a paralyzed leg afterwards. I was lucky to see a para Veteran who let them do that surgery, and the poor guy ended up having them remove his leg from the knee down, because he was left with a knee that bent in a 360 angle. It made his transfers hard, driving his foot kept sliding under the brake pedal.

Sad story!

Thanks guys.@jscott, yea well i had similar feelings when my leg gets twisted just not so intense, thats why i was thinking ligament damage, but it did come out of nowhere. i cant recall when i would have hurt it. @Zack, i requested an mri but they told me to just take pain meds and if it still hurt in a few weeks to come back.

Hi Lou05:

I don't know what kind of insurance you have, but listen to your intuition. If you feel pain meds won't take care of it, then be the squeaky wheel. Tell them the pain is getting worse (even it is just staying the same). That's part of the insurance/medical game and it will be hard to turn you down then if you say you tried what they recommended and the situation is not improving and/or getting worse. Then you will get your MRI. They call it "practicing medicine" for a reason and it's all a crap shoot. So you have to "practice" with them and if your instinct tells you something different, it's up to you to push for what you want.

Please let us know what it turns out to be. I'm grateful to learn as much as I can from others' experience. Good luck!
