Still to date, Berlin has to be one of my favorite places I've traveled to. The flatness of it, the transportation, the hotels not to mention the attractions are very wheelchair friendly. Doing what I do, I was recently introduced to a tour company in Berlin and told me about two different accessible boat tours that I had no idea about. Now I need to go back! Until then my traveling friends here is an article on Berlin, which talks about the city, transportation, hotels, attractions and tours if you are interested. Enjoy!

Here's also another piece I wrote before I started this wheelchair traveling thing about Berlin. It was my first trip but not my last.

I'm not much of a traveler myself....mostly I'm just not the "jet setter" type. But it is WAY cool that even touring companies are starting to realize that we the disabled are just like the AB world aside from needing a few extra consessions such as a van with a lift or a ramp to get onto the boat....but that a certain % of our community wants to go see the sights just like a certain % of the AB world wants to. :specool:

VERY cool you're reporting back on your own travels...that is how we find out where to go & where to avoid.

I'm glad I came across this post! I plan on taking a trip to Germany (money permitting, of course)! I'm glad to hear that it's really accessible too! Do you recommend a particular airline to book with? Or are they all about the same? Sorry if I'm asking irrelevant questions but this would be my first time on a plane and traveling abroad! Any travel tips are welcome! :)

Traveller, I loved your post. Yes, Berlin is a super city - one of my favs! A city of contrast, of diversity, of interest - just fascinating every time. And I'm very glad you found it pretty accessible.

(My friend hasn't been to Berlin but much enjoyed London last year.)

Kodie:Yeah! Do come, see Rammstein (LOL) and visit me! You'll LOVE Berlin! =)

Forget Rammstein . . . . . I'd go to Berlin just to see you, Jenny!
Well, and have some REAL beer, in a stein!
Okay, okay . . . and eat some veal schnitzel and spatzle, of course, too.

Ich bin ein Berliner!!!

And Berliners . . . . Especially raspberry!

You better come to the South West if you want to eat Spätzle.

I have only been to Berlin 2 or 3 times; usually on a day trip. I guess it depends in which district you are. Not all of Berlin is 100% accessible But I believe tourist attractions and public transportation are. Compared to the first time I visited Berlin 10 years ago, the city has become a lot more accessible.

Ah q, I nearly missed this post. Yes, sure, you're so very welcome ...
and my son just learnt to prepare real homemade spätzle ... :) But beer --- everywhere in Germany (different kinds)! Berliners will be here in all our bakeries for carnival soon!

Of course, Thomas is right. Spätzle are a specialty of the SW, and Berlin is changing daily.

Q, I would go just to visit Jenny too! Seeing Rammstein would be a +1 though! :D

The beer would be something I couldn't pass up either.. my luck though, I'd end up passing out on the sidewalk in lederhosen, getting woke up by the sun.. or the police! :lmao:

Oh well, I will make my way to Berlin...someday! And when I do, I plan on having an unforgettable time!

Hi there! When it comes to airlines, everyone has different opinions cause we all have different needs. I would like to direct you to an article someone wrote for wheelchairtraveling.com about planning for a trip. She talks about airlines and gives a great link to a message board created by airlines so you can get the answers you need and find the airline that is right for you. Personally, I'm a fan of Delta and Virgin....

Berlin certainly i a melting pot and very diverse,
germany is a very accesible country for wheelchair users. The sidewalks are usualy quite low and even and most of the atractions are wheelchairaccessible by law. I am very illing to give tips regarding hamburg or cologne.. Carneval is just ver but it's a blast..... And it is even accesible in a chair... Munich is also very beautiful. I don't think the octoberfest is as easily accessible but I'd still like to go some time...

Hey all,

I know this will be the wrong room to ask this question but saw so a few Germans here and wondering if anyone can recommended a good PT rehab center in Berlin. We have been living in Berlin a few days short of a year. Family visiting soon so that is why I am looking up accessible tours so my huzzy can join us on a few tours.
So let me know is anyone knows of a good PT center with preferably FES bike or something.

Thank you all and yes Berlin is pretty accessible the bus and S-Bahn and most U-Bahn are accessible. One thing we have noticed is that most Germans don't like to move out of the way not just for wheelchair users but also for on coming walkers lol..... Plus some cobble stones sidewalks and roads make for a bumpy ride but one gets used to it.

SOW
