Hi all,

I'm a C5 C6 Quad. My friend has asked me to be her bridesmaid for her wedding in March 07. I have been a bridesmaid whilst in a wheelchair before and also wore a dress for my own wedding 18 months ago, however they were 2 piece dresses with full length skirts and not a problem.

This time is different, the dresses my friend has chosen are knee length and flowy and completely unflattering on me. I have told her how I feel and although she is really understanding and has made a few suggestions on way's to fix it, I dont think she really understands how I feel.
She suggested getting mine made longer- this doesn't fix it as it will still be a one piece and not sit right.
She said to have it made 2 piece with the top baby doll cut- this doesn't help because it'll be a flowy top on a flowy skirt.
She suggeested I wear a top in same material with white pants- this means I won't fit in at all.

She really wants me to be a part of her day but I can't seem to think of anything without upsetting her. :)

I feel so awkward. What do I do?

I feel your pain!!! LOL

Do you happen to have a pic of the dress she wants for you... or a link to the store? I'd love to offer y ou some advice as I've been through this SAME dilemma. I'll try to find some pics of the "ugly dress" I had to wear as maid of honor once... gag.
Where there's a hill there's a way!!

Hey! Bring back my cape, I'm not done being invincible!!

LOL :)
Here's a pic, it's a really lovely dress but not something I would normally wear being in a chair. I'd love to see your pic too.

fancy meeting you here!! :) Thats great your going to be a bridesmaid again!
The dress is beautiful.....do you think if it was made into a two piece, they could make the top part of it more fitting so it would sit nicer.... :)

Hi juls :)
I don't know, my friend said they would make it a 2 piece and longer but would only make top fitted underb bust like a baby doll style. I still don't think it'll look flattering with a long skirt. Notice the back is longer than the front too. Although I'm sure the could change that.

Oh I feel like such a whinger. :)

No you are not a whinger!! Your friends know that things need to be altered to suit you, even if they don't fully understand why. What about if it was the same material but a completly different style? I've seen people do this in weddings before, im sure your friend would'nt mind....i'll phone you tommorrow :)

Yeah being a different style could work but I don't want to risk standing out like a sore thumb as there will be 6 of us. My wheelchair does that for me already. :)

Butterfly,

That really is a gorgeous dress.... and in another life, I just might wear it!! lol
From the looks of it, style and fabric, I think it could easily be altered to not be so "fallen" when you are seated. For example I think it could be taken in at the waste a bit to fit your torso and the overlapping panels could be tacked in place so as not to fall open. Also would cover anything you may not want to show. I think it's very doable.

I wore a chiffon dress as a maid of honor once and never even tried it on before hand (I was told I could purchase whatever dress I wanted and did so ON THE WAY to the airport to fly to Boston for the wedding!) LOL I never told the bride this until AFTER the wedding though lol. Anyway it was a very flouncy dress with a satin underskirting as the chiffon is rather transparent. It worked great and as I said with just a few simple tucks and/or pinnings I believe that dress might work for you.

Is there a place for you to try the dress on? Or does one of the other girls have hers already that you could just try on ?
You mentioned it being altered to a longer skirt... is that so your knees will be covered or do you not want to show your lower leg at all?

I could never wear a dress like this as I can't wear a strapless bra.I can almost tie my shoes with my nipples these days as it is! Damn gravity and the ever growing fatty breast tissue! LOL I really hate when some brides ask you to wear a spaghetti strap style as it does not suit everyone (no offense to your friend just my personal opinion) My niece is marrying next week and all her matrons are wearing spag. strap but they are what I like to call "the beautiful people". Grrrrrr :D

Still need to scan that "ugly dress" pic for you all, I didn't forget!

Thanks for your reply. LOL about your nipples.

I have tried it on and it looked ridiculous. Even my husband had to laugh. Unlike you, my boobs aren't huge so it didn't only look silly everywhere else but also around my boobs it was gaping (and was only size 8 Australian).
I don't mind showing a liitle bit of leg but would prefer it long as I HATE showing my knees.
On top of this, it's a real no win situation as for the past 6 months we have been trying for a baby. So if it turns out I'm pregnant anytime soon, I'll be thrilled but it will really throw a spanner in the works.

I look forward to your dress pic. :)

No more suggestions from my friend yet but she is going to look at dresses at the shop tomorrow
so I might meet her there.
Don't hate having small boobs but it'd be nice if they were a bit bigger. :ranting:
