I am extremely patient. Because I spend the majority of the day on my own, if I want something I have got to get it myself. I have been known to spend an hour doing something that would take an able-bodied person a couple of seconds. If I am on my own, nobody else is going to do it for me so I got to it myself. Last week when we had one of the really hot days, I got through all my water pretty quickly. Since I can't stand tap water the only other fluid available was a bottle of beer in the refrigerator (yes I know alcohol is a diuretic) it wasn't a screwtop so I had little hope of getting to that lovely cold beer inside. I pretty much surprised myself. Using a crappy old bottle opener wedged in my mouth and holding the bottle of beer wedged between my lifeless hands I actually managed to get the top off in no time at all, without spilling a drop.

That reminds me, there's an unopened bar of Noir 70% cocoa in the fringe :)

Hi Ironside,

I think you're pretty amazing... its not only patience but blind determination, which i think is a gift for anyone... it comes through in everything you write on this forum and i would like to tell you that i have the utmost respect for you even if you do hate being disabled :) Your website is cool also

i am the most impatient person ever. i cant stand anything taking longer than its needs to be. for me everything needs to be done straight away and i hate hanging around waiting for something to be done. on the other hand, im really determined and if i want something do, ill keep at it till ive done it - maybe not determined enough to spend ages opening a beer... - especially when it comes to things i want to be done, or want to do. for example, if, at dance classes, im supposed to do something seemingly impossible - mostly during ballet lessons - then ill make my partner and the teacher stay until ive got it perfect because otherwise all the effort seems kinda pointless if youre not gonna get the results. jason, is also really impatient, and gets really wound up if stuff takes too long, but he has a long more patience since his accident, becuase things tend to take a little bit longer, but he was always really determined and would always get what he wants, which i guess is really a good characteristic...

Oh shucks, thanks, you're very nice. Believe me, I shout and scream sometimes when something just won't go my way.

I like to think that I'm patient. I've definetly learned to be more patient as a result of my injury. But then I noticed that you don't have the use of your hands and I realized that as traumatizing as this injury is for me threre are always people who may have a heavier load than you, or just more things to deal with.

Here's to everyone on this forum as well as everyone else in the world who wakes up every morning with an SCi or a degenerative disease or whatever it may be. May we all take comfort in the small things and learn each day to deal with the harsh realities of life and also still be able to enjoy the fact that we are still alive. Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself but whatever... It makes me happy that there are people who can relate
