I have a small sore on my right ischial it is about the size of your Pinkie finger nail. It’s been the story of my life for the pass 15 months. I’m up for three days, and down for six days, because when that little spot opens up, it takes about six days to heal and (3) five hours days, sitting up on it before it opens back up. I am sitting on a aquila alternate pressure cushion and when I’m sitting up I am reclining and tilting to relieve the pressure. I used to sit on a Roho and that did not work either. I’ve had surgery on that spot and the original skin color never did come back. It has white superficial skin there that makes that spot extra tender. The doctors that I go to have ran out of suggestions, what a quadriplegic to do.

Do anyone have any suggestions or any creams or gels that I can put on it, to help with healing? I have had a wheelchair and cushion pressure mapping and there wasn’t any serious concerns where I am having this problem.

Hello Antclev,

Welcome to the forums here. You can find many answers and you will make lots of friends. About three months ago, I had my chair in the shop. I used my backup chair for about three weeks. I forgot to get my cushion from my primary chair and my backup cushion was a low profile Roho. I ended up with five small pressure ulcers and one large one, about 2.5" diameter (6.35 cm). I only use Microcyn for my treatment. I went to my wound doctor and he wanted me to use a moisture barrier also. The five smaller ulcers are completely healed and the very large one is about a 1/4" inch (.635 cm) now. I never had any threat of infection.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I'm in the same shape, 2 sores: 1 lft ishial, 2nd above lft ishial. Both have gotten to 1.2 cm deep & 1cm wide; I'm not the thickest/fat Quad around. Being in bed all day is difficult for me. My Dr suggest that I getup 2x a day, change Dakin's solution packing 2x's daily. I've had several different treatments and the sore gets better & worse.
I think if I can figure out what is causing the pressure in that area The both will heal quicker.

***I have a question for the forum, what causes a sore to grow in the inside while the outside closes faster??

Thank Lurker, I'll have to look that Microcyn up. My biggest problem is that when the sore heals and i sit back up it open up again.

I wish i knew but I don't. In my experience whenever I have a sore I can not sit up on it because it gets worse
