Hi

I was lookin to start training again after a few years lay off( I trained as a bodybuilder for years before my accident and for a period of time after my accident in a gym in another area to where I live now) and could not find a gym with accessable equipment and seeing as the council should really provide for all i found out who to speak to about the gyms in my area,i got intouch with him and after a few phone calls we aranged a meeting to look at the gym, now this particular gym gets a few people refered by there GP and the person I was speaking to about this was under the impression it was already wheelchair friendly and the main trainer down there recons it was.
On meeting the head of leisure and facilities at the gym we where also met by the head trainer whom I had met before to discuss the same issues and to cut the story short after showing them what was wrong with the gym and putting them in the direction of cyclone mobility they have bought an equaliser 6000 multi gym for me and any other wheelchair user to use until they refit there main gym in a couple of years with the full range of equipment, they also asked if I would help out by coming along to the meetings to discuss what equipment and the lay out of the gym should be when they refit. It appears that no council run gym in the whole of this county has an accessable gym and as I pointed out this would be the selling point to get mre members into this one.

Coming from a council that certain departments are a waste of time and you have to fight all the way to get anything done I am very pleased that they where on the sama page when it came to this

Si

Sounds like you've stumbled upon a great set of people there. Good luck
That's what she said!
