It took me 6 months after getting the pills to give in and take them; I started on 10mg daily about a month ago and I have to say it has been bliss! That is until yesterday :(

I got a bit of the tight drawing feeling I was used to getting in 2-5 days in a month period but put off thinking about it until I transferred out of my wheelchair to find that I was wet. Today I have spent the last few hours in agony because of the feeling. Twice I have felt an seen my bladder spazzing up.

I was very happy with the lack of side affects that I got as I was expecting more of a dry mouth than what I got.

OK, so I will try taking more which is what I expect the consultant to advise me to do but has anyone else become resistant so quickly? If so is it a matter of time before it stops completely? Or if anyone else has developed resistance but because it wasn't a strong enough dose?

Thanks,
Broc

seems strange you would be resistant so quick. Maybe something else afoot? Stones or possibly a UTI?

sometimes it can take time to find the right dose (or even the right drug!) Hopefully this is just a bad day and it'll settle down again soon, I think going up with the dose is the right thing to try as long as there is no other cause. 10mg is a pretty low dose, you may also find that although it is the XL version it may not last long enough to cover the whole day

I think Trin's on the right track with the dose. I was originally given one 10 mg pill to last a 24 hour period, but that didn't work very well.

Since then, I'm now on 5mg's X3 a day, with no problems. (that's 6AM, 12PM, AND 9PM)

Hopefully you'll figure things out soon.

Thanks everyone, this is of help me :) can you tell me whether you are on regular or XL?

I understood XL to be a longer acting drug which should mean you need to take less????? The results have been so good I will def dcontinue to try a few things/doses

Hey Brockit...For the first year after my injury I took a 10 mg XL of Oxybutynin with breakfast and a 5 mg (non XL) dose at night. After a year some nerves in my bladder started to fire up again, causing a more active (spastic) bladder and requiring a higher dosage...I now take a 15 mg XL with breakfast and still take a 5 mg at night. I usually have no problems with leaking unless I'm drinking alcohol and forget to cath more frequently. I am seeing my urologist for a three month follow up next week to find out if my current dosage of Oxy is sufficient. From what he told me a few months ago, there are some of us who do no respond well to the XL form of the medication and thus either have to take the regular form throughout the day or take an injection into the bladder once every six months to keep it calm. I suppose this is what I will be finding out at my visit next week.

Hope your body responds with positive results! Nothing worse than finding a wet cushion! Not only is it embarrassing, but it can cause skin issues as well!

I take 30 mg of XL at midday, asked about spreading it out and was told it makes no difference. Don't know if that's right or wrong. If it's modified release and there is any kind of baseline build up then surely it should not matter.

hi Mr Grinch, thanks. I agree my skin has suffered as a result of this issue. As for embarrassing: I rarely go out due to this as it is too uncomfortable :( I responded well for the first month so I will plough on trying to reach a happy medium.

Hi EC, perhaps i should try and take it a bit later; I want to be on as little of this med as possible but hold fire with taking 2 10s because I want to be on as little of the drug as possible to minimize side effects, thank you.

After 1.5 year I am needing greater dosage. Not always effective either. The problem arose rather suddenly and I am suspicious of underlying problerms in the bladder or urinary track. Dunno.

Oxybutynin stopped working for me after about three months, I then switched to vesicare which was fine at first but then stopped working after a couple of months. I now take 20mg of regurin twice a day and find that this together with botox works for me.

Yes I suspect other areas too such as uterus and also bowels hormones affect things too. Why do we have to be so complicated?! I'm sending a sample off for UTI.

Hey weirdly things settled yesterday and now I'm taking my 10mg tablet at midday instead of in the morning. Because I wan't to be on as low dose of meds as possible I am reluctant to take more just yet; I have suffered with it for this long and I couldn't believe my luck when this worked for one month with hardly any problems.

Oh well back to the fight, keep on keeping on
