So I am still iffy on getting a baclofen pump. I had a trial injection, a low dose, and was told I would only feel relief for 8 hours. I didn’t feel much of an effect, I didn’t have constant spams, but I did whenever I tried to move from chair to bed, bed to chair, to car, bath chair etc., and my legs were ALWAYS heavy and stiff. I was told I could come in for another trial injection at a higher dose.

For those of you who DO have a baclofen pump, does it work well for you? Did it totally get rid of your spasms entirely or just so so? Did it help get rid of any pain? Did it help you sleep better? I guess what I’m asking if you have a baclofen pump is it worth it? Like did it make a MAJOR improvement or just sorta helps.

Also, any other complications with the pump? What was the surgery like? What are the pros and cons for you? Thanks for any input, I’m still iffy on this and don’t expect much but the spasms I have to deal with right now are driving me out of my f*@king MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi I can now stay in my chair without being strapped to it, depends on how bad your spasms are but keeping a little spasticity is good, i have heard it effects peoples sex life though.

If I were you I would go as long as I could without getting the b pump. I don't take any muscle relaxants, but i do have a lot of spasms. I make sure to stretch really well every morning for 20 to 30 minutes. This takes care of the majority of my spasms. Some days I will have to stretch twice but i would rather stretch, because it is nothing but good for me, rather than take meds that are not good at all. Or by putting something foreign into my body which will always be at risk of infection and many other things. There are zero negative side affects to stretching, it is only positive. Think about how many negative side affects are in Baclofen, or in surgery for that matter. In my opinion avoiding surgery should be top priority. Also some spasms are good for your body. They help with your blood circulation, bone density (a little), and keep your muscles from so much atrophy. This will keep skins issues further away. Plus I have a lot more energy without Baclofen!! The other thing that I do is I put a lot of focus on exercise and nutrition. Those two things alone go a huge distance after a SCI. This works very well for me but everyone is different. I hope you consider what I have to say. If you would like any advice on stretching, nutrition, or excise I would be more than willing to share more information with you. I personally think everyone should at least attempt to get away from the meds.
Stay healthy and active. Your life will be happier!!
