I need help in deciding what to do. I am a L1 para and I have to make a decision very soon regarding the purchase of a new wheelchair. I have a Hyundai Sante Fe and I will soon be driving for the first time since I became paralyzed. I am able to enter and exit using a sliding board and consider myself pretty capable, but up to this point I have always had to rely on someone getting my chair in and out of the back. I've been advised I will need a folding wheelchair with a car top carrier, where as I had hoped for a ultralite rigid and no carrier. Do any of you out there have any experience or advise to give?

how much does the chair you have now weigh? i know ti-lites are only 10 lbs and the wheels pop off. i would think you should be able to get a ultra light rigid chair and put it either behind or beside you. you may want to practice at a w-c dealer to see what works best.
hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I have two chairs, 1-60 lbs & 1-37 lbs. I really want a lightweight one to be able to go in other ppls cars too. I will take your advice & go to a dealer & try out one first. Thx MG!
