Hi everyone! Has anyone had a muscle rupture before. Took Duke to the ER tonight, thought he had dislocated his hip...turns out he ruptured a muscle in his leg....just wondered if anyone here has dealt with this?
God will never give me anything that I cannot handle.....I just wish he didn't trust me so much!

I wonder if that is what has been plaguing me in my left quad/femur area for so long now? It has been especially bad lately and a "ruptured muscle" is a perfect description for what it feels like in my left leg. What did they recommend for him?

Ouch is All I can say if He can Feel it. I don't know if it's called ruptured or torn, all I know is my Right Bicep for 2 years now droops down to my elbow. The Not want surgery and a cast on it has left me with not having it treated, all because I know I wouldn't be able to push with a cast on. Now I believe it's too late for me to have it repaired and the pain can be unbearable when I forget and got to use it as I did before I ruptured or tore it.
My gosh it's painful & ugly! :(

Sorry i can't help. I think I'm just typing cause I can relate!

Hope All goes well

Ruptured/tore my chest muscle before. this happened before my SCI, I was bodybuilding and doing dumbell bench presses with a 160 pound dumbell in each hand and on about the 6th or 7th repetition, I felt my left pec just give out, it ruptured right in the corner where it connects to my bicep, all of a sudden my left pec was just hanging there, along with my bicep. Kind of flabby like. I didn't get it repaired and now, three yrs. later, if you stick your finger in the corner of my chest there is a definite hole there that feels about an inch deep. Now that side is weaker than the other and also tends to cramp sometimes.

No treatment yet. Gotta call our regular dr tomorrow morning. Will probably have to get an MRI and go to an orthopedist. We think he did it night before last. He lays on his stomach and them pushes himself up to stretch out his hips.....it looks and feels like a dislocated hip, it a golf ball sized knot on his right hip. Dr said its the muscle all balled up.....He can't feel it at all, no disreflexia......

If he hasn't had an MRI yet, how was the diagnosis of a "muscle rupture" originally made? MRIs are the only way to see soft tissue, including muscle, so without having one, how could the ER docs even know?

Educated guess, ATG. Pretty much like all medical diagnoses. That's why it's called practicing.

For those who have or have had this condition and haven't had treatment for it,, my question is ,, why not? Is the treatment that much worse than the injury? I've not had anything like this,, and am curious. I have put off going to a doctor to find out what was wrong,, but never to have it fixed once I know what it is.

It seems odd to me,, but maybe it's not as debilitating as it sounds,,,,, and it sounds pretty bad.

Ed, When I severed my biceps tendon, I was told I could only get it fixed if I was a model or a shot-putter, etc. As my athletic days were over 40 years ago and I'm ugly as sin, I've learned to live with this curious Popeye bulge. And I hate Spinach.

Hopefully I'll have an answer in the next day or two....I called our SCI dr today and they are going to try to get him in tomorrow....they are just as perplexed as we are :)As soon as I find out what it is and what we do about it, I'll let you all know!
