I think I might see some of what you are saying, ATG. Someone mentioned the tactic of asking someone to sit down,,,, as though they might be looking toward the other's comfort,,, but really for their own.

It isn;t so much a feeling of inferiority or superiority,, as it is a matter of comfort. Feeling more at ease when interacting with another at eye level. As I said previously,, I, personally,, am not uneasy in these situations,, with one exception. When at a bar,, where I participate in a pool league,, I find myself alienated by the difference in height between my chair and the bar stools. It is difficult to carry on a conversation with more than one person, there,,, and,, admittedly,, I tend to feel excluded.

Perhaps it's more of this feeling,, the one of exclusion,, that you are referring to.
