I just had my bladder pressures checked out at the urologist(UDS). I have been incontinent and they told me I need to take Detrol and Imipramine. Has anybody taken these and if you have do they work? Also, any side effects?

They also prescribed me antibiotics because of the UDS procedure. Is this necesarry? I swear these doctors hand out antibiotics like they were lolli pops.

Never heard of the tablets but in what way are you incontinent? In a sense all SI are. If you have a spc and are leaking through your urethra then why not wear a sheath with bag on to avoid the tablets?
I imagime the antibi's were prescribed as the procedure involves potential infection, however in general I agree with you too many antibi's are given too easily, that's why we have MRSA.

Detrol is caled Detrusitol in the UK (Generic is Tolterodine). AFAIK is to prevent bladder spasms - my spinal consultant put me on it recently, his recommendation is that all spinal patients should be on it. I wasn't incontinent but I've seen a rise in bladder capacity since using it. Other than that I wouldn't know I was on it.

Bladder spasms are a cause of incontinence so it may well help.

I've been on Detrol for a few weeks now and it's helped tremendously. I never had real incontinence issues in the past, just an occasional accident, but lately it was out of control. The Detrol LA has helped that clear up (but you still need to cath per your regular schedule)

I was on Oxybutynin for a month trial but found it to be too constipative and switched back to Detrol LA. I haven't had any side effects with the Detrol but did have ALL of them with the Oxybutynin (generic Ditropan)

I always have bladder accidents throughout the day so I have been wearing a diaper. I would prefer not to have to do this.

The responses I have received about tolterodine(detrol) have all been pretty good. Most didn't experience side effects and it worked for their incontinence problems. It is the imipramine that I would prefer not to take. Its main use is as an anti-deprssant. I've never been big on meds and I'd like to take as little as possible. Maybe I'll just try the detrol and see what happens.

I recomend Detrol, it works perfect on me. Without it I have to cath every hour to avoid accidents, with Detrol I can wait up to 6-7 hours if I need to, but usually I cath every 4 hour. No side effects (besides dry mouth).

I'm also taking Detrol LA. It works great!! I don't need to wear a condom cathether anymore, just cathing myself every few hours. I also take cranberry and garlic capsules. They help control UTI from occuring.
