I would like to hear your stories about urine. It is one of my greatest embarrassment since my sci. When l was in primary school l would urine in class. That was in the early 90s. I use a urine bag and a condom. When the connections dont work and maybe am in a meeting far from home l feel so bad to know that people are suffering the smell of urine. Please forgive my ignorance as l have never attended a rehab center. I want to learn from you. The other day l was being lifted into a bus and l suddenly saw urine spill! Jeeeeeeeeez and l have to wait until evening to change when l get home. Let me hear your say on these ACCIDENTS.
Hope is life. Where there is hope there is life and where there is life there is hope........try to say M without your lips touching.

So, I take this gal that is hottern hell out to dinner....We was havin' a great time.
We was there an hour after we finished eatin'....I had 2 beers and then we was knockin' down coffee like it was water.
Well I was wearin' light colored pants, dropped my napkin on the floor and noticed a huge water stain (but it wern't water) on my britches. (My whole lap was wet)
Yep, I was so involved wif the hotness of this gal and the conversation that i forgot to cath.
So I went to the bafroom to empty and came back, said I had to go. She noticed said stain but said nuffin' (rare to find a person like that eh?)
She called me again but, bein' the class act I am, I was a jerk to her and started to question "why" about everything she said to me. (she said she liked me, I'm great, even liked my hair, ect.)
I pushed her away, with ease, then tried to "fix" things ('cause I really like her) but she was havin' none of that, so, here I sit, no hot gal wif me.
All because of an accident I couldn't control and she understood (Insecurity?).....WTH? But life goes on and I hope to not be such a prick the next time this happens.

Moses,, you are far from alone. If you have tubing,, you WILL have accidents. I use an indwelling cath,, and lately have had some problems with sediment clogging things. When that happens away from home,, I can tell because I know about how full the bag SHOULD be,, but isn't,,, there is really no good solution. It's only a matter of time till it bypasses,,,, excessively.
I do what I can to avert problems,, by flushing regularly,,, keeping my bag emptied often,, double checking my tubing and connections regularly,, but,, sometimes it just happens. I carry a small hand towel with me at all times,, to wipe my hands after pushing on the street,, or to cover my lap when forced to push through the rain,, but it also comes in handy,, for covering areas that I'd rather not have people notice.
It's all part of the SCI life. I find I am embarrassed by less every year.

I've been lucky as I have never had an issue urinating myself during the day while I was out or home. This is a different story when it comes to sleeping at night. If I have a UTI and it's a fairly bad one, before I get on antibiotics, I can have many problems. I think it's part of the life. Everybody goes through it to some sort of degree.
If you don't try, you fail.

Accidents are going to happen but to minimize them, I use a indwelling or foley cathater when I go out an checked the leg bag frequently I have also used two legbags. I also try not to drinks as much and if partying drink liquor instead of beer. But the main thing is try not to drink a lot of liquids when you are out but double up when you are home don't need a UTI or to be dehydrated and like Liz56 suggested if you are out at lunch or a movie you can always dump your cold drink on yourself.
Have a Great Day
