Hi - I don't know what started me squeezing a lemon into a litre-and-a-half bottle of water a year-ago (think it was just to take away the blandness of the water) but it's worked wonders.
Usually I had an urine infection (mostly mild but debilitating all the same) every 3/4 months but since scoffing the above plus plenty tea, has eliminated these infections.
I googled the benefits of lemon and was amazed at their beneficial effects on body - diuretic, cleansing etc
Here's hoping it continues.

Interesting I may try this... I seem to be having a run of bad luck with my bladder at the moment! Glad you have found something that works for you! :)
Everything will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end!

Vit C -- turns urine more acidic ............... ..... apparently.

Cranberry juice too is supposed to be good.

24 years ago we were all given Vit C tablets!

If it works for you great!! Can't hurt.
Life is just to short not to have fun!

Probably the combination of the Vit C,, the acidity,, and the extra fluids. All help. My SCI doctor insists that I take 3 grams of Vit C (3000mg) every day. As a general infection fighter.

Me too 3 grams of Vit C per day turns urine acidic. Gives it a mild green tinge too strangely.

I like the sound of this. I'm always battling low level background infections as I have a suprapubic catheter. It would be interesting if a number of SCI people gave it a go so as to have better anecdotal evidence. Anyone else interested?

I used to do the cranberry thing...juice and pills. When I went to my urologist with bladder burning, he tested the urine and told me not to touch anything cranberry. He told me to drink as much real lemonade as possible. He told me the urine was too acidic and lemonade would make it more alkaline. After about a quart of lemonade, the burning was gone.

Good luck.

Wouldn't lemonade increase the acidity (and thus decrease the alkalinity) of urine? I don't understand the urologist's reasoning here.

Me neither. It's the first time I've heard that adding acid to acid makes alkaline. Just arse upwards.

Something about fresh lemon makes the revers true, and akalinity is increased, bringing the PH to a level less hospitable to bacteria. Grapefruit also, I was told. If you add sugar to the lemonade the effect is canceled, since sugar pushes the PH back in the wrong direction.

No need to believe. just get yourself some testing strips, test before, drink the damnably sour lemon, then test again in an hour or 2.

Amazing, thanks for the information. I found this video explaining this paradox a bit: .

I may try and get some of these "testing strips" because I feel burning sometimes too. I just stick one in the container full of urine?

Yes, just dip it per instructions. The timing for each test is on the bottle.

Thanks for the video. So, what should we have, acidic urine or basic urine to combat UTIs?

I've heard lemons help too. I also heard a little apple cider which is acidic helps with UTIs and heartburn. It is said to neutralize the heartburn.
