Hi
I dont have a spinal injury but have condition that has left me unable to walk and I use a wheelchair permanently. Someone may please be able to answer my question?
Coming to US end of March for 5 weeks. Will be travelling by air to a few cities eg LA, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Wash DC, NY and San Fran. When we arrive will need to get a wheelchair taxi to take us to our hotel. Is it easy to arrive at these airports report to the Taxi Zone, and ask for a accessible wheelchair taxi. They will call one up from the waiting area for you. In Australia or NZ this is what I'd do, is it the same in States?
Cheers Liz

If you have gotten on an airplane you know that u have to use an aisle chair and then transfer to a seat on the plane. Most airports here have a tunnel thing from the plane to the airport or they have a ramp.. if all goes well you should be able to ask for a accessible taxi very easily..

Or if you get in contact with the hotel that your staying in and give them your arrival time, most have handi-buses that will scoop you up for free.

That last is a very good tip. Something you could easily check on when making your reservations.
Most of the cities you mentioned,, with the exception of New York,, should have a reasonable percentage of their taxi fleets, accessable. Mayor Bloomberg doesn't seem too interested in doing that in NY.
