Ted 303, catheter shouldnt or isnt supposed to stay for longer than 3 weeks, it depends a lot on how much fluids you drink. Bacteria colonies appear about 2 weeks after changing the cath, so its better not to let them grow inside you.
Do you clamp the tube? This would promote the blader´s elasticity and some medication like ditropan would help the blader´s fibers to relax and gain some holding capacity. Around 300, 350 ml is very good.
Also, it the bladder is empty, this could lead to irritation from the folley touching or rubbing the bladder inside, i have this for experience, so i have thse tricks to lower the risks of AD.
Anyways, i have always near me some pills by the name of ADALAT, just for emergencies, never used them.
