Recenetly I noticed that my feet are slightly purple and often seem colder then the rest of my body. I have support sock that I wear but I am looking to prevent blood clots. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

My feet have been like that, last time i went to the doctor/er they ask me about that because my feet stay very cold and redish/purple, but they did not seem concerned about it

Not sure how to prevent it, but if you can raise your feet up higher than your heart for a while each day, it might take the discoloration away. As for coldness, mine are usually cold but since I tilt back in my chair during the day, they're not discolored. I sleep with them propped up at night. Good luck...

My Feet have been purple while in the Chair for too many years! Raising them above your heart when back in Bed as Scott said is all I can do for it. Mine usually go back to normal in just a couple of minutes. Sadly the doctors shrug it off as if it's nothing. I'd request yearly ultrasounds to make sure you don't get Clots. They're serious!

Good Luck!

My wifes feet are purple all the time, I believe that this is due to the poor circulation that you could have in your legs below the level of your injury. Just my two cents worth. But I do agree with the other raising your feet above your heart will help. Good luck

My feet swell and turn a weird color too. I asked my Doc about it and he said as long as they return to normal when they're elevated it's nothing to worry about. Mine are fine in the morning when I get out of bed so I guess they're okay. Speaking of ultrasounds, I need to have one done. Haven't had one in about 8 years! Thanks for the reminder, Zack!

Circulation in my feet is poor, especially the left due to a varicose vein there. I am a walker/creeper so I do something with my legs every few hours, wear very warm boots in the winter, and often put a warm heating pad around the left calf.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

hey han,

yes as these folks said it is a circulation thing. The blood can pool in the blood vessels when struggling to get back up to the heart via the veins. Elevation of feet is good as is dry skin brushing. Other things that I do is adjust the temperature of the water in my shower warm-cold-warm. If you can move your legs do; I can't and so I discovered recently that by using a memory foam pillow as it retains heat and so I've not woken with cold feet since :D

hope this helps

Have you tried massaging them? It's a way of manually stimulating some of the blood flow back into the feet.

Brockit is right...cold feet plus crappy circ equals people footsies. Socks socks socks! However, rubbing or massaging is A BIG NO NO...it can dislodge clots which are more likely sure to bad circ. Toodles:)
