I'm really excited. I applied for a full time substitute teaching position back in December in our local school district. I just got a call today that I've gotten the position and start training tomorrow! I was trying to keep up hope after all the problems with my last job, but it was hard. Now I'm glad I did and happy to prove that being in a chair won't prevent me from doing most things. I just wanted to share with everyone! Hopefully I can turn it into a long term career if it works out well.

Have you ever seen "The Other Side of the Mountain"? Totally reminds me of your situation. Skier who gets hurts, becomes paralyzed, and then goes into teaching. Haha :)

I'm so happy for you. Congratulations. Those kids are going to have a fabulous teacher.

Thanks everyone!!!

My degree is in the sciences so I'll be able to get a full teaching license without having an actual education degree. For right now, mellowgator is right, I go all over the district and teach all different subjects. However most of the subs only have elementary background and if they have a college degree it's in education or something similar. That leaves me qualified to teach a lot of the high school level math and science classes. It's weird, I'm only 23 and I went to the high school I'm teaching at. I feel like I'm barely older than some of the kids!

Your age should give you an advantage starting out I would think. You should be able to relate to your students. More patience maybe, enthusiasium (please don't grade my spelling..:-)
