Hi! My name is Erin. I'm a 26 year old wife, mom of a two year old and new T11 para as of Dec. My hubby and I have always slept together on an extra firm mattress. This was awesome until my accident in dec. Now I may as well be trying to sleep on a bed of nails. In my accident I broke my C1, C3, &T8,9,10,&11. I am paralyzed at T11. We are saving for a better bed, but it takes time. Does anyone have any advice until then? I am lucky to get 1hr of uninterrupted sleep & when I do, I wake in agony. Please help. Erin

You could get a piece of memory foam until you save up enough for a new bed.

Hi Erin,

Pillows are my saviour at night - me and hubby have developed a system of extra support using lots of pillows, it not only allows me to sleep in a semi sitting position but pillows placed under my upper legs and knees can be removed during the night to allow me to change my position.

Hope this helps

What Julibug said.

AND... I tell everyone, GO TO OVERSTOCK.COM for a mattress. Their prices on memory foam cannot be beat..and their shipping is always/only a maximum of $2.95. I've got a Serta and I love it!

If your looking for an extremely soft mattress topper that won't hurt your wallet all that much, I've Spent a night sleeping Confy on the floor using the 4 inch think version of this http://www.walmart.c...s-Pads/12288351 it also comes In 2 inch think, that I've found great on top of a mattress that was so firm It was causing my skin to turn red I'n minutes.
There are Medical supply stores that sell what they call Egg crate foam, for about $20

Good luck !

I sleep on a duvet folded over to create a soft layer on top of the mattress. Cheap and works a treat.

Why get a new bed if you don't have to?

As others said, I also added a memory foam topper over the regular mattress . . . after I got rid of the box spring to lower the bed for easy transferring.

Hope you get some sleep soon. It's one of those things that really ISN'T over rated.

hi there,

I slept on a normal mattress for years and then we switched to memory foam topper for additional comfort - it IS softer and moulds around you....however, I found that it made moving on the bed much more difficult as my hands sunk down in to the mattress when I lifted myself or tried to change position - may not be the case for you but something to bear in mind. I was so pleased that the topper was not very expensive!
We now use a regular, medium firmness, mattress. I have never had a problem with my skin. I think the 'folded duvet underneath you' idea (posted above) is a great idea - will mean that you can both have your preferences met and will add warmth on cold nights too.

Good luck!

Ali
