When the catheter is in the bladder and the urine is flowing, is it safe to try and pretend one is voiding normally and kind of tense up the stomach muscles? This makes the flow go a bit faster for me (T3 incomplete) but I am not sure it is safe or advisable.

I do it too. Haha. I don't know if it's good or bad, but when I think about it, I compare it to a straw. Think of exhaling (pushing) with a straw in a drink. Then when you're done doing that, you have to breathe, so you inhale. Some liquid backs up into the straw. I don't know if that's what happens with your urethra when you pee, but it is what I imagine. Yet, it still doesn't stop me from doing it, lol.

I'm not so sure that the addition of a wheelchair does not actually level the playing field a bit, could be interesting some day to have a race! (weird thought I know!)

i have thought about this a lot and glad there is a thread on it. i don't push really hard as i am worried about the foreign object in my body anyway [cath] i would worry if it did any damage, i do relax my stomach muscles and let gravity take over though sometimes when i am in a rush i do exert a little force i use 12.0 and it seems to take an age before i finish on the loo but i did try a 14.0 and didn't like the extra opening of the urethra so i stuck with the smaller one, i do miss the natural feeling though

I have always squeezed a bit, on the basis that it was somehow using the limited muscle power I have. Not sure the Cath would do any damage unless you rammed it in with some power.

Colin you might have hit on a new Paralympic sport, the Bicathlon!

Most fetishes I've never had a problem with, even the ones where chaps will pay you good money to lick your shoes (boy was that a strange evening). But this... this is just making me feel a little uncomfortable!

here's a link for the medicinal value of urine.

http://www.churchofe.../lifewater.html

any takers? that being said i was taught to crudue while cathing to make sure my bladder was empty. that's not the same as straining but i wouldn't think it'd be dangerous. as long as your emptying your bladder 100% you're good.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

You guys have taken what was a perfectly innocent comment about the time required to complete the mission and turned it into a smutty reference to expensive weather!
For those that are interested I believe in coaxing the last 3 to 4 cm out little by little to ensure that satisfaction and complete emptying is guaranteed!

I've found that if my bladder empties too fast (with either a bigger catheter or by straining) it is likely to trigger urethral spasms which makes it harder to get the catheter out, as well as other spasms. Also straining could result in the tip of the catheter, that is still in there when the bladder is empty, irritating the wall of the bladder. Irritation from indwelling catheters like that can stimulate cancerous growths (which is why some places have protocols for regular cystoscopies), so theoretically I suppose the same kind of regular irritation from an intermittent could do the same.

Be mindful some urine may go back to your kidneys.
