hi, new here. Not sure if this is the spot to place this post..anyway looking on advice from those who have had their gallbladder removed. I have gallstones and had an attack last may but chose to not have my gallbladder removed thinking a good diet and i could 'fix' myself or maintain them. yeah..right. Well, im not always eating perfect and every now and again i can feel the little buggers letting me know they're still there and have had side/back pain which im assuming is the liver area. (i had tests done then and they confirmed the stones so i know for sure i have em)
What made me say no to the surgery at the time was the chance of running into bowel problems once the gallbladder is removed. From what i read some people get bouts of diarrhea once its removed. The gallbladder breaks down the fats and with it gone would i be fearing accidents? What are others experiences with theirs removed? I've been feeling like crap off and on. Some days i feel great but then others by 1pm i feel like calling it a day and going to sleep even though i haven't done a whole lot. I feel like im drugged almost and i can't get work done (luckily i work at home but my work is suffering) I used to chalk this up to UTI's but i just dont know anymore. Very frustrating. If anyone feels like this or in the same boat, PLEASE let me know asap. Now im fearing if i leave these stones i could make things worse with my pancreas or liver. (ive read a couple scary posts on this board) sooo...anyone have first hand accounts with a 'faulty' gallbladder?

I don't know if what I say can help you,, but I had my gall bladder removed post SCI. Mine became enflamed and my notice that something was wrong was when I suddenly had a seriously loose,,,, and copious,,,, unexpected bowel movement.
I hadn't been aware of ANY problems up til then,, but really felt like crap during and after. We actually called for an ambulance,,,, and in our area, our local volunteer fire company acts as a first responder to all 911 call. Guess who had to watch his crippled father wash crap off of himself in the shower. I'm quite proud that my son has chosen to give his time to be a member of the VFD,,,, but I would have preferred he not be on this call.
Save yourself some later embarrassment,, and have the thing removed. I did,, and within a week my bowel routine returned to normal ( which isn't to say perfect,, but normal for me). I'd suggest you not wait for it to force the issue.

I had my gall bladder completely removed and suffered no adverse effects with the exception of a few more scars. I was up and around after a day. I eat pretty much (in moderation)everything I did before my surgery with the exception of Peanut butter too much and I feel ill. Besides that factor all went well with no problems. I remember to try to cut the greese and add more greens to my diet but my body tells me what I can and cannot eat. It is very important that I listen.
Life is one long insane trip. Some people just have better directions.

Hi
I'm not SCI but I did have a number of attacks last year and it was recommended I have it removed. Like you I chose not to. I don't believe that removing organs can be a good thing in the medium to long term. I changed my diet and became a vegetarian (meat is especially hard on the gallbladder) and starting juicing raw veg and fruit. I haven't had 1 attack since the day i started juicing. Also Dandilion tea and constant cleansing is important (olive oil and lemon juice). Hope that helps. I think hang onto your organs as long as possible.
