Hi Guys,

I am calling upon anyone who has done a run/cycle for charity!

I will give you a brief, I have decided to do some fundraising this year, and first on my list is Riding for the Disabled (RDA) and the Para Dressage Training Trust (PDTT), as they are dear to my heart and I wouldn't be as far along with my riding as I am now with out them. What I would love to do is a hand cycle over the highlands visiting each RDA centre which includes 7, Which I thought I could try for 7 centres in 7 Days? The calculated route begins in Orkney to Halkirk (Caithness) to Invergordon to Muir of Ord, then across to Skye, then across to Newtonmor (Cairngorms), and then finishing up at Fortrose (Nr Inverness) covering a whopping, 473 miles approx. My other Idea was to just begin in Orkney and make my way down the east coast to finish in Inverness which would be roughly 156 miles, but only going to 5 centres.

This is the part I need advice on, I haven't completely decided on how far I should go. How many miles would you expect to cover in a day? How much fitness work is required? (at the moment I average at 7 miles in a hour), I have never done a marathon or such like before.
Everything will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end!

Great idea Doodle but 67 miles a day?

I would go for the shorter distance and try to get as much down hill pushing as possible.

I would be happy to sponsor you.
If I fall out of my wheelchair in the woods would anybody hear me?

As Clara posted, sounds like there may be some great minds at work this week! Maybe we can combine some of these thoughts and ideas, lets see.

Can I be on your support team?

I dont have any direct experience but I do have a para mate about the same level as us who has done lots of long distance hand cycling is it ok if i give him your email address?

There must be a way to plan a route which might be longer but flatter.

Wow that sounds like one hell of a challenge you don't live in the flattest part of the country !!

I would certainly be willing to sponsor you and I hope you get some useful help in planning it all.

Good Luck !

It does sound rather knackering. As it's for the RDA and the PDTT have you considered doing it on a horse doing funny walks all the way?
How does it feel to feel?

Yes please Tom, do you still have my email address?

Thank you everyone for your kind comments of support already. I am still planning on doing this but will need some thorough research, so will be a long term goal. But will keep you posted on it!

Great idea Emma, always good to have a challenge! Not sure on the distance you want to cover per day, hard to put a number on it because some roads will be better than others as in traffic and hills etc. You should ask Alan from back up, you know him. He did a huge 960 or so miles in 9 days! I'm sure he'll give you some good advice.
