If I produced a website all about scars and home remedies, medical arena remedies and how you deal with them, would any of you look at it? Believe me, the site wouldn't be sexual in nature, merely a way for all to share their battle wounds so to speak. Also, who knows someone may have found a cure. Can I get feedback as to whether any of you would visit the site? Or if you have seen a site like this, let me know too.

I have quite a few scars so I would be interested in how other people are getting rid of theirs. Most of mine are pretty faded but it has taken years for them to fade. I also used things like mederma and some kind of prescription scar gel at one point. I forget the name of the prescription stuff that I had. I even tried having the dermatologist do injections in some of my scars that are still raised. The injections were pretty much a rip off. He said I should probably have more to see more of an effect, but I just really don't see much of an improvement so I'm not spending more money on something that doesn't seem to work!

Well, I have found through an aromatherapist that if you put neat lavender oil onto a new scar, once the stitches have come out, not only does it help the healing process, but the skin become nearly the same colour as your own skin and has very good movement and appearance. John's scar on the back of his neck is hardly noticable, in comparison to how it could have looked, and it never pulls or itches. I dabbed it with lavender oil on cotton wool, it doesn't burn, it just soothes and lavender and tea tree oil can be used neat. Lavender oil is also really soothing for sun burn.
If you are treating older scars and want to improve the appearance of them buy BIO OIL from your local BOOTS chemist or similar, it is absolutely brilliant stuff. It is about £9.99 for a bottle but a little bit goes an awful long way and it is non greasy. Your skin can absorb it and it really does what it says on the bottle. I use it for hard skin on my feet, it is good for stretch marks and all scars. It helps the scar fade and the skin regain its elastic type appearance. BIO OIL can also be used as a bath oil and does get absorbed by the skin unlike baby oil etc which is a mineral oil and just sits on the surface.
If you type BIO OIL into a search on the internet you can also buy it mail order. Lavender oil can be mixed with a small bit of a carrier oil such as grape seed, and rubbed in, but that is greasier.

Wife of an incomplete SCI - level C5/6 - accident lifting boards above his head in work caused popping sensation in his neck and this was the result. He uses a wheelchair part of the time.
Never say never, and definately do not quit, its usually worth the trying in the end.

I don't know if it covers burn scars, but it says scars and does not specify which types.
Neat Lavender Oil rubbed into burns scars does help, so give them both a try, alternate on a weekly basis, the skin absorbs both and both can be used as bath oils. Try a few drops that way or bad it over the area and massage it into the scar, you've got nothing to lose and neither of these oils can hurt.
I always take a bottle of lavender oil abroad with us in case any of us get sun burn and it really does help soothe it. Aloe Vera juice is also supposed to be very useful, and you can use that neat also.

Hi..Maria.
Thanks for the info on BIO OIL definatly going to track it down as my husband is just home after surgery, removal of a kidney. So he has another scar to add to the others!
I am getting physio on my shoulder as someone drove into the back of me, any way she was saying that a regime of massage along with Lavender oil is beneficial in helping the scar tissue to soften. In fact she is off on a course to learn more about physio in reltion to treatment and managment of scars.
Doncha just love this site!

Hi Lora,
After posting this yesterday, we were watching TV last night and there was an advert on for BIO OIL and it said most chemists are now supplying it. SAVERS, BOOT etc. So good luck, but try both as the lavender oil on new scars is brilliant, John was totally paranoid about having a big scar down his neck which stood out above his collars, and after using the neat lavender oil on it several times a day, it isn't even noticable unless you are really looking, just a fleeting glance and you don't notice it, he's bald like Grant Mitchell so as you can imagine it would have been so noticable.
Use the bio oil once it has all healed as I don't know if you can use it on fresh wounds.
Tea Tree and Lavender are both natural antiseptics, and are about the only essential oils you can use neat, all the rest have to be mixed with carrier oil to dilute them.
Yes I love this site and I don't know how I managed before I found it.

Yikes that's a bit drastic!
Are you up to sharing why this happened.
I hope he makes as full a recovery as possible.
To both LoraB and Maria, Thanks for info on oils. I have been using Lavendar oil since the scar healed but it hasn't really made much difference. I've also been putting Boots lanolin cream (which also contains lavendar oil) on at night. It's also good for rough hands.

Hi,
The lavender oil works best as soon as the dressing is off and the skin is still at the healing stage, bio oil works from that point on. So if the scar had healed use the bio oil, it takes a while but it does help.
