sacral implant

I had a sacral implant about 17 (?) years ago and now I am getting some pain and discomfort around the plastic implant area. Does anyone else have this implant (electical impulses through implant to make you pee) and have you had any problems with it? I have been told that the wires should easily last 5 years but I have never had them changed - should I get them replaced?
