Some recent background: I am 4 wks postop from having mitrofanoff, bladder augmentation, and bladder sling surgery done (also had my appendix and ovaries removed but whos keeping track?!). The sp cath is coming out on Friday and it's gonna be a new world all over again for me. Prior to surgery I had a spc and prior to that a foley that was put in 2 mo after my injury almost 6 yrs ago. I never could hold much before wetting myself and that's why I had to go with the indwelling. The indwelling kept giving me chronic utis so I had the surgery. So for years, with a night bag and Tempur-pedic bed I could sleep for as long as I want, but that is about to change!! How long can you sleep before you have to wake up and cath? How long before you go to bed do you stop drinking? Does anyone still drink coffee, is it even worth it? I'm getting a little anxious about the changes so thanks a bunch for all your help, I really appreciate it!!
sry, I didn't realize I posted it the first time!! oops

I cut down the fluid at about 4-6pm, still drink but small amounts. I drink coffee, lots of it. It will depend on how your kidneys normally operate, some folks have kidneys that are very active at night and also if you hold fluid in your legs and the such, it tends to be released at night.
You should know the trend on how your body behaves from before. If you empty your bladder just before you sleep and you have kept the intake low during the evening then hopefully you will get a good long sleep. Also the size of your new bladder will obviously have an impact.
Good luck.

I've had a bladder augmentation. Following the instructions, I'd get up in the middle of every night to go cath, never going longer than 4 hours. But, after noticing that when I accidently did sleep through I was fine, I gave up on waking up and for years have slept through safely going eight hours, occaisionally pushing it further on a lazy Sunday morning. Never have accidents. It's fantastic.
....and, I'm having a coffee now before heading off to bed.
