Ive recently had a couple of incidents of skin hypersensitivity. Last week the tops of my legs were so sensitive I could hardly bear to wear anything, and today the seams on my underwear and trousers were again causing my skin to be really painful. Of course it seems to be a real contradiction as for the most part I have very little senstion below belly button, so I cant quite work out whats going on here. Both times it has lasted about 24 hours and then goes again. Its very unpleasent while it lasts and frankly I have enough daily discomfort to be going long with thankyou very much!

Just read this and your post about getting weaker, I think they're linked. I'm not incomplete so things are a little different but I had major hypersinsitivity post injury 23yrs ago for months to a stage where even in places I couldn't feel, if touched would give me like electric shocks.
Even dropping things on the floor would cause me pain from the noise. It was just nerve sensitivity returning post swelling around my injury site but even now I get occasional days where its bad again.
If you add this to your loss of ability, you may well have a syrinx causing your symptoms. I would suggest you get checked out.

When there's a loud bang or something has been dropped etc.. i get a jolt up my spine that sends off a burning pain, but it's the jolt that really hurts, i was just wandering if anyone else gets this as well?? And if so have they been able to manage the pain??

I get pain shooting down my legs when every there is a load bang or crashing noises from something being dropped. Its happened since my injury. Damn hurts! I think it was caused by the subconsious part of the brain from when i had my accident in a car crash and my brain remembers the bang. I cant remember the bang coz the brain cuts out any trauma. Its annoying even if i expect it to happen it still does it. It feels like my legs are being blown off.

There was a loud bang as a part of my accident (part of the bike snapping) which I can remeber very well and now whenever there's a loud bang I'm not expecting it scares the bejesus out of me. It's not like I'm a nervous person or anything and even once I know what it is and that everyones all right I'm still shaken up. Stupid, I can ski down mountains at 30mph but someone bangs a ballon behind me and I'm a quivering wreck for 5 or 10 minutes. At least I don't get the pain - that may be something to do with being a complete injury.

hi there
have you hand chicken pox or shingles?
do you get cold-sores on your mouth ?
i think you may be suffering Neuropathic pain from HSV
this is normally brought on by a bout of depression or stress, so the day after (nearly exactly 24hrs) .. after you've been stressed/angry/sad/emotional/depressed/had a row ect...
the neuropethic pain will begin, it will ge t worse and worse in severity, and often in will spread - but normally, its only on either the left hand or right hand side of the body that is affected.
once it peaks in serverity - it will remain at that peak and it always lasts 24hrs - i can normally set the clock by it !!
mine was treated with Amertryptiline (sp?) up to 4 x 25mg tablets per day
there are other medicines about though
TENS machin e works well
As does topical numbing cream
i think you should ask your doctor if it could be Neuropathic pain cause by the Herepes Simplex Virus
good luck mel xx

Hi LD
In the early days of my (incomplete) injury hypersensitivity and sometimes pain was a precurser to some degree of return in that area.
