I have these front casters and they handle small stones and lips in pavements without making the chair come to a sudden stop and flipping me out.

I've got these from Bill at www.mobilityscotland.net and they do the same.

Are frog leg caster's better cause they are wider?
And any specific brand name you like best?
Thanks!
Frog legs caster folks are like suspension and help you have a smoother ride and less chance of sudden stopping when you roll over a stone or small lips in the pavement (sidewalk) It's best if you get 1.5" wide rather than the 1" wheels to go with them like these http://www.epc-wheel...hair-caster.htm Wider caster wheels are better, thin ones tend to be a harsh ride plus if you go off road thinner wheels get stuck in the mud/grass. 4" soft rolls are worth getting and still small enough for maneuverability. Not sure about different brands but most soft roll caster wheels are the same like in the link above.
Edit: Here's a link for the Frog legs http://www.sportaid....nsion-fork.html

Chas I would try the soft roll casters first if you can get them to fit your folks, it may well work for you and save you $$$$.
The other alternative is the Freewheel. http://www.gofreewheel.com/

Long story short: I'm looking for advice/experience with the freewheel or any sort of adaptive equipment for sand.

Have you used the Freewheel?? My fiance is looking at getting it...mostly for our honeymoon since we're spending the week on the beach in the sand, but besides that we love to travel and so he was trying to decide if it would help or not. He actually has frogs legs but isn't a huge fan of them and is in the process of getting a new chair, we're just waiting for the insurance auth to go through.

I have those shock ones you mentioned. They are DANGEROUS, lol. They flex enough when I hit a half inch bump that the footrest hits the ground and stops the chair instead of bouncing over it like the rigid ones do.

I have the ultra sport forks on both of my froglegs (have 2 XTRs)....haven't had had a problem. And when I was living with my Aunt I went through Old Town Transit Center.....which has ALMOST ALL COBBLESTONE + train & trolley tracks to go over & curbs to hop to get to where the buses are.....never had a problem in the 9yrs of having them.
All this talk about frog legs is makin' this hillbilly hungry, lol
