Hi ParaPrincess So come on over as it is easily do-able. Maui truly is a tropical paradise with many accessible activities and beautiful vistas. Many direct flights from the mainland and you still are in the US. Being in the US means no passports are needed, the water is safe to drink, easy access to medical facilities, English is spoken, so kinda of likebeing home but very different. I have a wheelchair accessible condo with a roll in shower which I rent to other disabled folks (I am a C5/6 quad). You can preview my accessible condo at www.mauiaccessiblecondo.com and be sure to check out my google map which is labelled "Map Project" on my website as it shows all the accessible activities in relationship to the actual island of Maui. My current availability is August 26, 2012 to October 17, 2012 and then Monday March 18, 2013 ish to Thursday, May 16, 2013. FYI With travelling with a disability being so difficult and different many renters I have dealt with have evolved a trip to Maui over many years so feel free contact me at bruce@mauiaccessiblecondo.com if you have any questions. Hope to get you over some day. Aloha Bruce

This post couldn't have arrived at a better time for me!
I have some friends who go to Maui every winter, sometimes twice during the winter because the season is so long here.
They were over for dinner last weekend and brought me an article about Hawaii being very wheelchair friendly. It wasn't as good as the article or information in this post though. However, it did get me thinking about going to Maui for a vacation this winter, especially since my friends invited me to go with them
They always stay in Maui as this is the area they have come to love the most. As for me, I've only traveled twice on a plane since my injury and that was years ago when my children were with me to be of some help. It was also a direct two hour flight from where I live to Vancouver. I'm definitely a "virgin" traveler and I really want to go but it's surprisingly scary to think about going away after being a home body as long as I've been.
I'm going to take the plunge though. I'll be looking into your condo Bruce. We are planning on going sometime in February 2013; I'll be in touch and I'll get more information.
I'm going to get past my nervousness about being away from home. It's quite ridiculous at my age to be scared of traveling!
Thanks for the information.

There is just you. Radiant one of a kind, blessed, scarred up, scared, sacred, funny, fully embodied, fully ensouled... you.

As you'll be flying in from Canada you'll need a passport contrary to what I posted above and your flight from Vancouver to Maui direct will be around 6 hours. I fly this route all the time and for service to us disabled folk I recommend West Jet over Air Canada. Good luck with your planning and contact me if you have any questions. I also just had a cancellation at my condo for November/December dates so my availability at my accessible condo on Maui is Sunday August 26, 2012 to Wednesday October 17, 2012 and then Thursday November 22, 2012 to Sunday December 2, 2012 and then Monday March 18, 2013 ish to Thursday, May 16, 2013. Aloha Bruce
