We just went shopping to Tescos, parked in the disabled bay, put my blue badge in the window as usual.

Came back to the car to find some idiot had parked on the crosshatched area, so close we couldn't open the door wide enough to get in. :yikes: I moved his/her wing mirror in to get past, and "accidently" scratched his/her car in the process of get through the gap, which I had to do a couple of times just for good measure. :)

Karen went inside to complain and ask about clamping the car, and was told they don't clamp cars who park incorrectly in the disabled bays, and they don't enforce the penalising of incorrectly parked cars in the disabled bays!

So, basicly, the bays are for anyone, as if you do park there without a disabled badge, Tescos aren't going to do anything about it.

I'm now working on some leaflets to put under windscreen wipers for idiots who park where they shouldn't.

Simon. :( :dunno:

Now i can drive i have been sent to do the shopping at tescos and i counted ther is 17 mother and child parking bays close to the shop and 6 disabled parkin bays further up. Where is the sense in this???
One day i was ther and a middle aged guy in a big warrior truck pulled up in a disabled bay and jumped out with his wife (both ab's) and just walked in, so my mate started shouting abuse at them using lots of bad language and they just ignored him and carreid on with their shopping!!
My mate wrote a complaint but he had no reply so is wanting it to happen again so he can have a rant at someone else.

Building legislation now requires that 6% of total parking is given to disabled parking bays for new builds. At my Tesco in Hexham there are loads and loads of bays and they are never full. In Carlisle its the opposite its pure luck if you get one as they are full to overflowing.

Tesco have no national policy, it is very much up to the individual store. In Bristol for instance they do ticket cars wrongly parked because they have an on site attendant to police the parking to stop commuters parking all day. So there is a huge variation. Some stores will also make tannoy announcements telling offenders to move.

Baywatch campaign is organised by many disabled organisations, but frankly I think its pretty toothless. Until it becomes a statuatory offence I doubt anything will ever change, but in order to do that I think there needs to be some fairly hard hitting and maybe even offensive campaigning by Us.

Cheers

i said before in previous threads lucy that baywatch is rubbish and a lot of supermarkets have backed out of the scheme, its all a conspiracy by the shops they pretend to be disability aware but when it comes to their profits they let any tom dick or harry park their just to get custom, they have the bays for 'show' as if they are a caring corporation but the bottom line is their bottom line, they don't want to enforce it with the risk of 'upsetting 'their paying customers,we and our bays are just 'look good factor' :yikes:

Ok, here's what I've come up with!

Download the pdf attachment at the bottom of this post, print it out, and put it under idiots windscreen wipers who park where they shouldn't.

Here's a low resolution preview.

I slapped my first 'Parking ticket' this morning!! :yahoo:

Some 'Rich Bitch' (according to 3 of her car stickers ) pulled into the bay next to mine, jumped out of her Range Rover and trotted into Tesco. :nono:

Has anyone ever tried putting a bit of paper under a Range Rover wiper blade while sat in a wheelchair??

I would have absolutely no conscience if I dented/scratched some morons car who had no right to park based next to me and in a disabled parking space. If they complained, I would just tell them to call the police and let them deal with it.

I tend to shop at Sainsbury's more than anything and there are constantly people parking in the disabled bays, it really pisses me of and I always say something, or go in the customer services and get them to call out the person's registration number on the Tannoy and get them to move the car straight away. I think they have got used to me complaining. I really don't care what they think. A couple of years ago I offered to put leaflets on the cars when they were seen parking where they shouldn't and they wrote a letter to me saying that they would deal with it and they would prefer I didn't. They don't do anything about it whatsoever, they are just a bunch of cowards, they don't like asking people to move unless you really push them to do it. As far as I'm concerned, it should be findable offence parking in a disabled parking bay when you're not entitled to. The traffic wardens are quick enough to whack a parking ticket on you if you park on double yellow lines. Taking up a disabled persons right to park is just as bad in my opinion.

When I first came out of hospital, I stayed in the local Cheshire home for nearly a year while the flat was being built on the back of my parents house. There was a guy there with M.S. who was a long serving naval man, a really big guy that you wouldn't want to mess with. When there flat was nearly finished, we both went down in our electric wheelchairs to have a look. He was driving a great big electric wheelchair with mudguards on the two big front wheels and we came to this car that was parked halfway on the pavement. It was outside a shop and Chris knocked on the door to ask the guy to move his car. The guy said he would be out in five minutes so Chris promptly scraped his way through between the shop and the car leaving a great big gouge in the cars paint. I didn't hang around to see what the guy said when he came out eventually.

myself and my partner( t11 t12 c0) when't to tescos a few months back and there was no disabled parking spaces left so i got out and looked to see how had blue badges on,, there were 2 car that did not so my partner dicided to park right behind one of them and we sat there until the owner came out, hoping that they forgot to put a blue badge out,, when the owner came it was a young girl and her freind so my partner put the window down and asked if she had a blue badge she said she didnt so he explained what he thought of people like her making it harder for disabled people, as you can guess it became a very heated argument as the girl stated that she was deaf but the thing was she could hear us quite fine, so he told her that he was not going to move his car from behind hers and she said she was going to ram his car, he was furiouse with her, at this point im getting his chair out off the boot, he transfered into his chair and left his car where it was until we came out of tescos, on the way in to tescos he had a go at the parking attendent stating coz it was raining he was to frightened to get wet. anyway when we came out she was still there but before we got back to the car a space infront of her was empty and she drove through it and left.
Now whenever we go shopping we always have a look for blue badges and if we dont see one we wait until the owner comes and tell them off if they are ab.
you want to see some of their faces its total humiliation then you get the ones who just dont care...
i think people who use a disabled parking space and shouldnt be there should get fined on the spot or a truck shold take the care to a compound and the should have to pay a fee to get they car out...

just shove it in the side view mirror. the little gap between the mirror and the body. OR take a pocket knife and engrave in the metal part of the trunk "i parked this range rover in a disabled space because i am stupid and i should hit my self in the back of my neck with a hammer" (the action they will do will render them quadriplegics with loads of spinal pain thus making them miserable for parking there)

I thought I would add to this by saying that my last couple of trips to my local ASDA has resulted in me having to complain to Customer Services & Security.

Althought they employ and administer parking controls - they do not operate on Sundays ????

So guess what -- Yep Muppetts utilising the easy option because they cant be arsed. I might well try the issuing the ticket above.

These are awsome and I got some printed out. I had some in my truck before but my boyfriend has been driving my truck alot now until I can drive again so, I have no idea what happened to the previous ones I had. Anyways, not sure how it is in Europe but in the US most of the people have plates or stickers (placards from the rear view) but when they get out, they clearly dont meet any of the guidelines for having one. So, it appears that people are using others stickers or they had some at one point that have expired and continue to use them even though they dont need them. In the US this is a much bigger problem than people parking without them in the first place, so unless you actually see someon get out of the vehicle then you cant tell the fakers from people who reallly need that spot. (Although going into any store you can quickly tell if there are people meeting those guidelines by walking through and 95% there is nobody inside that should be parked there but half a dozen vehicles properly identified in the spot)

The other day I was at WalMart and I dont know what was going on that day but I saw a couple of people on crutches and had a traffic jam with people in wheelchairs (I think some followed each other around just to be by them or something). There was one person in a manual WalMart chair being pushed buy a boyfriend and didnt appear to have any issues other than wanting to ride with their daughter in their lap as I saw them kicking their legs around under the chair, there was another person sitting in a WalMart manual chair with a cast on a leg and carrying crutches while someone else pushed them, there was another person in an electric WalMart chair who looked to weigh about 450 lbs so I could make the assumption that she was lazy (but I wont) there was another person in a WalMart electric chair that was about 90yrs old so I am guessing she was using it because of fatigue (although fatigue alone does not justify a permit in the US unless you cannot walk 200 ft without having to rest - so 300ft means no permit). There was another person that appeared to be a quad in their own electric chair and there was me in my manual chair... all rounding a corner at the same time! Since I rarely see any other chairs in stores, what were the odds of that? I'm going with wheelchair envy... two of us actually needed chairs and happened to cross each others paths and the rest were groupies that were following one of the two of us around :)

I almost never have a problem finding parking at Wal-Mart, but I guess because of the Holidays the last time I went I had to tool around for about 15 min., waiting for a space to open up. If I can't get a close spot, I might as well turn around and go back home, because walking further is not an option for me at all.

And although I try not to, it's hard not to pass mental judgments on those who skip out of their vehicles, seemingly pain-free and quite able-bodied. Of course, those who park in the w/c-van spots and have no w/c......that really grates my butt. And I try to keep in mind that some disabilities are heart-related, and therefore unobservable by others. Pain is another situation that isn't often visible....especially if you're really good at hiding it, like most of us become.

I'm all for including photos on the placards...and for those who have the permanent plates, an additional placard to hang up with your photo. (I'm not too keen on having my photo on my license plate) :)

Simon,

Thank you for taking action and informing the ignorant drivers about parking rules.

It is good you took matters in your own hands when the Store refuses to help.

Thanks for the tickets simon seems a good idea at first, but for the drivers they are aimed at seem to have problems reading in the first place.....
I'm still going to print some off onto sticky A4 paper & stick em to the windscreen, at least they will have a bit of annoyance before they can leave the car park. :P
& yes I have read the disclaimer (Added before post start)

I think a site for bad parkers pictures could be a good idea, look at this idiot:

Interesting.

This action was born out of frustration, not out of idiocy.

You see, when you've been in a wheelchair for 15 years, and people park in the crosshatches in the disabled bays, it makes it impossible, or very difficult for someone in a wheelchair to get back into their car. When it turns out that the person who parked in the crosshatches is not even disabled, but just lazy, the tempers just get the better of you sometimes.

Have this scenario happen on a regular basis, and maybe you can understand?

This is not something I do every day, but I'm sure, if you use a wheelchair yourself, you would understand the daily limitations imposed by thoughtless people, blinkered by their own inconsideration.

Nice that you felt strong enough to join!

Regards

Simon :)

I seem to remember, in the dim and distant past that we could buy special stickers which said, "Now you've taken my disabled parking space would you like my disability"? You could stick them on their window and as they had extra strong glue, they were hell to get off.

As for scratching cars... We have a problem in our village of cars parking on half the footpath. Our High Street is very busy so I don't risk going on the road just to get round an illegally parked car. If the gap on the footpath is so narrow I scratch their car then its not my fault; they shouldn't park on the footpath.

Its usually nice shinny Merc's or new BMW's that do it the most... :)

Even stickers on the windshield can get you arrested for criminal damage these days!

Of course, I never condone thoughtless criminal damage, and I have had to live with the guilt of that fatefull day for the last three years, when my anger got the better of me.

It's not been easy, but I am coming to terms with the fact that I commited a criminal act.

Hell, we're broad-minded here and don't mind mixing with criminals (within reason). I for one would never be found deliberately scratching someone's car but if they've parked idiotically, such as this scenario, then I'm not going to be too careful with obstacles while going about my business to get into my own car. It's a matter of priorities.

Anyhow, it was a big excitement for Fluffie and just another example of how this forum can meet people's needs.

2 interesting experiences come to mind

1. i was left a note under the windscreen wiper telling me " i was taking a park from some one who needed it etc.... and my number had been recorded" but i was in a WC and had a permit, go figure.

2. i was parked in a disabled spot and parked in by another disabled person. who got shitty when i asked him to move so i could get out.

go figure. even those that should know better dont.

Tescos are the worst super market for disabled parking bays and miss use as for scratching there cars i have damage all down one side on every panel from some one driving down the side of the car and not stopping this was when the car was parked and i was left to come back to see the damage this was when i had to park in a normal parking spot on the end of the line so i could get out ok as the disabled bays where all taken most taken by none disabled drivers the tesco staff dont give a crap and the head office dont even care when you phone to make a complaint the tesco near me even issue tickets to parent and child parkers to let them park in disabled paking bays if the parent and child ones are full as if this helps us to know that a person with a pram can use a bay needed for us the people that need a wide bay to actually be able to get out of the car.

One time i had just transfered into my chair from my car and a car pulled up on the passenger side window came down and a women said these bays are for disabled people not just any 1 well not known for keeping my temper i flew off on one she must have thought i was a midget she never saw the chair?????????????

I have and my partner has scrathced cars that get in the way that should not be there mostly on public roads that park so close to the back of the car she cant get my chair in the boot F@CK em as for the quote about it being a criminal act you obviously have never been stuck trying to get access to some where or even stuck trying to get in your own car because of some idiot parking where they shouldn't and if they approach me i would not shrink back in my chair i would get arrested for knocking the living shite out of them because i really could not give a crap about people that have no sence and think i am a second class citizen i have the right to do anything an ab person has and if people dont like that so what i dont loose any sleep over it in fact i love it LOL.

now this post might get me in trouble with some.....
here it goes......
old people with ble badges!!! wtf i watch the vast majority park badly in a wheelchair space then WALK WITH NO PROBLEM in to the shop... then when i get in the shop they are still walking around 1hr later!!
i asked 1 old bloke if he could park in the normal space ,not more than 20 feet away so i could use the bay so i could get in and out using my chair ,he got shitty and said he and his wife are DISABLED, im sorry they are OLD not disabled as they were both able to walk unaided into the shop.
i think there should be wheelchair bays only for wheelchairs and normal size bays for people who have difficulty walking and a kick up the ass for old people who think its ther god dame given right coz ther old.!
i dont mean to offend anyone who is old but please think twice do i really need to park in the wider bay?

Yep i see young people with blue badges that get out walk around (dance in the isle LOL).
I have only ever seen a bay that had a sign on it saying must be left for wheelchair users only and that was out side a hospital it was just the 1 bay mind you.

I think the blue badge system is a joke here in the uk they should have colour coded badges as in

blue (i have an in growing toe nail and am disabled)
Red i am really in need of the wide parking bay as i am wheelchair bound (dont take the piss leave it for me)

The parking bays should then have the sign blue badge holders and the others should say red badge holders only.
Or even a chip card that if you park there and dont have the card a massive spike comes through the bottom of the car and goes up ya arse.

i agree the blue badge sysyem needs a re-think, ie different badges for wheelchairs and for people with walking difficulty,(and i me real walking dificultiy not just ooooh im a bit achy this morning) and make it an offence to park in them without a badge and enforce it properly with a large fine!!

scribbler i think you'll be ok in the spaces lol
