A Blokart is a cross between a go-kart and a yacht. They're small, but very potent (the speed record sits at 64.4MPH!).
Being close to the ground gives you a great sense of speed, but they're also pretty safe and injuries are extremely rare.
Sportability are offering Blokart taster sessions on 7th July 2012, 13:30 until 16:00 at Throckmorton Airfield, Pershore, Worcestershire.
All safety equipment will be provided and we will have a fleet of 6 Blokarts available.
It is ideal for paras, although we can cater for tetras by setting up a 2-seater which either myself, another instructor or your PA can help you with.
You will be given a safety briefing by Steve Harvey of Kiwi Blokarts UK or Chris Selway (me!) -I came 3rd in the World Championships in Nevada this year against a fleet of able-bodied sailors.
We're expecting a good turnout and pre-booking is essential so give me a shout as soon as possible if you'd like to reserve a place.
Sportability events are free to people with paralysis.

If you want to keep updated with the UK Blokart scene 'like' our Facebook page or find us on twitter @theblsa
I'm racing this weekend at Perranporth in Cornwall; I won the last 2 years so I'm hoping to make it a hat-trick. 25 karts hitting 35MPH or more in a small area; it'll be mayhem; BRING IT ON! :D
A few others with disabilities taking part, but not many sci in the scene; come on; give it a go!

I won all 18 races in my class at the weekend (even the one I capsized in!). Very blustery conditions and a great range of technical courses.
Came 1st overall and also set the highest top speed of the weekend; 40.7MPH is pretty quick in something that weighs about 30Kg...
-Come out to play at Pershore on Saturday!

Sadly Sportability have had no bookings  so they won't be sponsoring the event. If anyone fancies coming along do get in touch with me and I'll sort you out with some of the basics. Not for free, but not expensive either (there are airfield fees).

I'd been meaning to give Blokarting a go since I first spoke to Chris nearly 18months ago. Finally a group of us from work (Kandu) booked a day with Chris Selway and his friend Chris Moore at http://www.westonwindsport.co.uk/ and I just can't recommend it enough for a fun day out.

We were 2x paras, 2x tetras and 3x ABs and it is just such an accessible sport to mix and match on largely equal terms. We had 5 karts to play with, including one double kart which meant only the ABs had to swap and share and we completely forgot our trusty old wheelchairs for a couple of hours while we had fun hoofing around the beach at Weston soaking up the sun (having driven through torrential rain to get there!).

It's easy to get the hand of and flying round just makes you grin from ear to ear!

Before finishing with a delicious BBQ on the beach and waiting for a beautiful sunset! Both Chris (what's the plural of this word?!) are super friendly and have the generosity of people who want to share their own passion. If you have been thinking about doing this for a while, get in touch with Chrisonwheels and blow out the cobwebs with a few hours of this sport.

Thanks for the ace feedback, Guy. It was great meeting you lot, we all had plenty of fun. Good to see some of you getting the karts up on 2 wheels (although there were the odd capsizes as well, lol).
There is a Fun Weekend lined up for the 8th/9th September at Weston and a Sportability gliding / Blokart sailing taster day at Aston Down nr Stroud on the 25th October. There's no charge for these events, but expect to be limited to 20/30 mins.
I need some practice time over the Fun Weekend (aiming to win the British Open Championship this year) and I already have a couple of people booked in for a longer session (they won a voucher I donated to a charity quiz for the local Mencap group).
If you fancy a full-on 3-hour session best to contact 'the other' Chris at Weston Windsport, or Steve Harvey at Kiwi Blokarts UK if you are in the Midlands area. There are other activity providers; see http://www.theblsa.c...GB/Default.aspx for all the details.
