It drives me crazy when friends n family ask me how are you feeling ? Or if I'm okay when I space out or fall asleep. And there not just casually asking, they're asking because of the sci. It's been a full 6 months since my injury and ppl are still asking. Ppl just assume that you must be depressed and your life just sucks because your in a wheelchair! The thing is that I'm a walking quad! Chair for long distances.

I know they don't do this on purpose but it just gets annoying. They act like I'm fighting cancer or something. Lk no I broke a freaking bone like everyone else and now its fine.

Then there's ppl that think I can't do anything. Oh here honey let me cut that Apple for you. Do you need help going to the bathroom? Oh don't get up ill bring the napkin to you.

Then ill be somewhere and ppl will just keep staring at me and whispering to each trying to figure out wats wrong with me. Apprently ppl in wheelchairs can't talk or think so no point in just asking them lol plus they probably bite.

I'm still new to the injury so family n friends will understand eventually and as far as others go ill get used to it.

What actions of others bug you?

When people push me when I don't need it, that bugs me 'cause I don't got them handles so they use the back rest and jab me in my back.....And yeah you'll get used to it.

Be a smart ass man.....I got me a new family what moved in next door a few days ago and this guy comes up and says "damn yer an inspiration" I says why and he says "'cause you do stuff". That's it? I do stuff? So I said "bro, you should see me wash my dishes or eat my dinner it's really bitchin'" he left and prolly won't be back but I don't care, I ain't gonna entertain some random stranger.

It bugs me sometimes when people press me for details about how things are going. I get annoyed and tell them that it's bad enough having to live this life, I don't want to talk about it, too! Probably not the best retort -- oh well.

You do dishes!?!?! Hell man, that's earth shatterin!

Seriously, I hate dishes. It is awesome when someone other than myself does them.

I know there are a handful of these topics and for some reason I never get tired of them. My biggest peeve is when someone pushes me. Aside from my dad or husband, I hate being pushed, even a little bit. I kind of hate it when even they do it.

The inspiration thing is annoying, but at least it has good intentions. What bugs me is those who ask real quickly "What happened" and I just lie and say a trampoline fall, because the whole story is way longer. Then it's the "Well, at least ----" fill in the blank. I work in customer service and I see a lot of people. We get at least one a week where someone wants to whine about their handicap, which is fine. I don't judge. But the whole "Well at least you can't feel pain" (like they know?!?!?) or "At least you don't have crones" or "At least you don't have what I have". Unfortunately, because it's my job, I can't let my sarcastic side out and be like "Thank God! I mean, just look at you!"

I know some disabilities are hidden and don't carry such awesome accessories like a wheelchair, but it seems like when people see the wheelchair they feel some innate need to let you know how terrible they have it.
3 doctors diagnosed me with hysterical paralysis (weee!), 1 diagnosed an incomplete T7, another T2 and the last (and most accurate) T5. Trampolines are BAD. Sleep is unpredictable. And never kiss strangers. Life has moved on.

It doesn't really bother me when they ask how I'm doing, but what does bother me is when my family members kiss me on the forehead,I'm like really?? can't u bend over and hug me and kiss me on the jaw!!!

Oh boy oh boy. Once in a while I need some pushing but it does bug me when ppl try to line my chair up against the car for a transfer. I'm pretty sure I can handle my own chair.

One of my vocal folds is paralyzed but once its fixed its gna be a sarcasm fest!

My daughter pats me on the head but she does it in such a funny way that I can't help but laugh. I torment her in so many other ways....

I eschewed push handles when I got my chair simply because I didn't want to be pushed. However, I do let my son push me on difficult bits (no handles tho), and he knows when he can do it without asking. The one who annoys me with pushing without asking is my B-in-L, but he always has been pushy. He means well, but has no tact.
There's always a way.

I hate it when I'm in Walmart with my girlfriend and people stare at us like I'm some kind of charity case... that's usually when I'll hitch a ride on the buggy to make it look more profound.

People pat me on the shoulder now. When I was 5'10" people never felt the need to pat me at all. Another thing, that I have always hated, is being called sweetheart, dear, or hon, etc. and I live in the f*****g South. I accept it from people over 65 and people I am currently knocking boots with. Being in a wheelchair means it happens constantly and I resent it even more.
