My back pops so loud that passers by can hear it! When I get in from work I like to stretch out on the bed and do that slight twist that makes it pop. When it does I feel a lot less back pain so for me its a good thing. But then I am 21 years post injury. If my back popped when I was newly injured I would be worried! I am pretty sure it's a ligament thing and not boney.

Holy crap people go see a chiropractor. They'll be able to correct that popping sound and more. They will even help in the spasms and burning sensations etc, etc, etc.

I used to get this a few years ago when I had a myra Power chair. The back of the chair was very low and I used to get this guy to stand behind me and lift me up in the chair. My spine used to really make a crunching popping sound that was very loud. After I had done that, my back felt really good. I think it's probably because you are not walking around and stretching/moving your back as you would do when you're able-bodied. It's probably something to do with the vertebrae.

If, or should I say when, we get back on our feet, a lot of us will probably have very bad backs unfortunately.

Hi!
Mine does this too but it feels nice and relieves the pain. I asked my physio about it and they said not to worry about it if it doesn't cause pain. :scooter:

I was talking to a friend (he study Chinese medicine and how the body works- pressure points and all that) he said that most people only move a certain way all their life, and some parks of their body don't get stretch out well enough and once awhile those popping is just you basiclly moving your joins and stuff. If it doesn't hurt, it's all good.

I do that with my whole body during Martial Arts (back in those days) and warm up and stuff, my Sensi said it's good for the body and soul (if you do it right, oh yea, you'll feel so good after a couple minutes...)

These days I go to my friend and he just move my leg to the opposite side and pop it, he says it's good for the body...

I wouldn't know, I'm no expert, but hell when he pop my neck....oh yea...feels soooooo good....:yikes:

Well that was long, hope I answer your question

during my health and social classes i was told that your joints cracking was a bubble of carbon dioxide between the bones bursting, which sounds gross but can be good but can also lead to osteoporosis, so its probably a good idea to get it checked out just to make sure.

I had a loud popping sound occur about 10 months post surgury, right at my fusion. turned out that my body rejected the hardware, and it got loose. so they took it out. The popping stopped. Yoou might wanna get an x-ray and check the status of your hardware.

Ooooooh yes! It feels amazing when you have your neck cracked and all the pressure gets released!

I pop my back unintentionally everytime I turn to the left or right, I have had it as long as I can remember and it has been pretty much the same when my fusion has been in place and when it has broken

I can also do it as a temporary pain relieving method, though I get the impression it may not be too healthy.

Maddie is right about the bubble of gas causing cracking - it pops between joints - however bones can make that noise also if they are grinding so would get it checked just to be sure

I love popping my back and neck...is like lifting a 10 ton weight off my shoulders!

I know we all have different needs & preferences for what gives relief and all relief is definitley welcome and we all have to find the way to get through every day but i personally really cringe about neck cracking done by another party (not self popping etc). I disclose a bias as it caused my injury. I had gone to chiros & osteos for years, thinking i was doing good maintenance for my body after a bad knee injury. One day my osteopath (Australia different to the US osteo way of practicing i know) did a very hard neck manip with rotation (several times) & he ruptured the C6/7 disc completely & sent it & the endplate of the vertebrae (this shows you how hard he did it, to rip off the endplate and no i didn't have any disease or condition) in to crush my spinal cord. And that was that! He had also tried to manip my upper back same day in a technique that i had told him never to do again as it hurt too much & never worked on me anyway & yes i protested. I think he was not having a good day but the price paid was all mine. It cost me my previous life & health all in one swift neck crack. He is still in practice of course. I had gone out with a chiro earlier, for 5 years, and one day we were watching a scary movie and i said "what would you do to save yourself in that situation". Chiro-ex said "break their neck". I said "is that easy to do?"; chiro-ex said "very easy, in fact the hardest thing about neck cracking is not breaking the neck". I never imagined how honest that comment was. Sorry to get on a high horse and hope this is not a thread hijackbut felt i had to share that personal note of caution. Again, i know we all take comfort & relief where we can & there are many paths, i respect & understand that completely.

Mine pops many time every night... when I go to bed and stretch out on my stomach one little twist and crrrrrrrrack. I mangled my back though, Brocke T5,7&12 in multiple places. And I'm fused from T5-L2. I does feel pretty good but moreso if I dont do it for a while it'll get stiff/sore. (stiffer than titanium?lol)
