Working in the beauty industry I deal with fragrances daily. At times I am horrified by men & women alike, regarding how they "scent" themselves. Has their smeller gone to the wayside? I have a rather accute sense of smell so very little gets past my nose (which at times is HUGELY unfortunate for me) :censored: We all want to smell good, especially to someone else but do we overdo it and are we offending anyone in the process? I worked for a communications company for 20 years and being a small office we tried to enforce the "no fragrance" rule but on occasion we had some offenders and it made for an uncomfortable 12 hour day at times! I remember a date hugging me once and when my mouth became pressed against his neck in the hug, I could taste his cologne on my lips for hours!! It made me sick to my stomach actually. :badmood:

I'm going to be doing a little "workshop" with some high school aged kids, a group of cheerleaders, and I'd like to impress upon them the importance of being "naturally' beautiful and the proper way to douse themselves.

What's your "fragrance routine"?? This goes for the men too as there will be some young fellas at this workshop. Some feedback from the general populus would help. Personally, I like to layer my scents. Bath gel, body lotion, followed by a spritz in the pulse points (crook of your arm, behind the knee, cleavage, behind the ears... all good spots but don't use them all at once! LOL) I can wear very few parfums as they tend to go very "green" on me so I stick with 3... Givenchy fleur d' interdit , Ralph Lauren Blue & Jessica McClintock. What do you all wear?? And guys how do you like your ladies to smell? Remember the kids I teach today will be the old ladies you have to smell in the waiting room tomorrow!! LOL
Where there's a hill there's a way!!

Hey! Bring back my cape, I'm not done being invincible!!

I too have an acute sense of smell. I tend to go for the neutral smell routine. Washing in Radox shower gel (in the bath) and using "Sure" anti-perspirant underarm.
Most perfumes smell disgusting on me. But on the odd occasion where I feel the need to be more feminine then A tiny dab of "Chloe" by Karl Largerfeld behind the ears and on the wrist is fine.

My hubby doesn't go in for man made smells and actually I love his natural clean body smell. :censored: and when he goes away I save one of his worn shirts to sniff while hes gone!!! The amusing thing is that if he drops one of his dirty T shirts on the floor my cat goes mad rolling on it :badmood:

If I'm out shopping and someone walks by smelling really nice I tell them they do and Ive never been glared at yet. :P

I agree with Ladypilot I prefer my man to smell of ...well... man. When my husband was recently in hospital I slept with one of his used shirts!
However, back to the subject ...my all time favourite is Madam Rochas, unfortunatly my husband can never remember the name so I don't get it bought for me very often..I also love Miss Dior, just the smell of that perfume reminds me of some fun times ..
On the whole though I think as far as perfume is concerned sometimes less is more..if you see what I mean!

I dont like clashing smells (you know - can smell the deoderant AND the perfume AND the soap AND the makeup - and they dont quite go together, plus makeup smells horrid anyway - reminds me of my Grandmother)

Oh yes, same Grandmother (now aged 93) wears Rive Gauche perfume, so that always reminds me of old ladies. A perfume rep tried to sell me some once, and couldnt understand why I said it was for old ladies only lol.

I use unperfumed deoderant (Right Guard or Simple as I cant always find Right Guard unperfumed) and then perfume dep on my mood... Davidoff Cool Water for work, Dior Dune for a change. D & G Red for a night out, or if the Dune has run out lol. Just a couple of squirts in the cleavage.

Also tend to get eau de toilette rather than eau de parfum, as its a less intense odour (and is cheaper per bottle).

Hubby normally only wears deoderant (Sure sport or something similar), but likes Chanel aftershave (cant remember which one doh!) for going out.

I hate flowery smelling perfumes that some women seem to need to bath in. It seems that those women prefering flowery perfumes have no sense of smell and spray and spray themselves. (My step-daughter, my mum and two of my friends) When any off them put it on I can literally taste it for hours and it takes your breath away.

I prefer roll on deoderant rather than spray as you don't need to use so much, but I usually buy lightly or non fragrant varieties.

I love citrus smelling shower gels.

I like Chanel Coco perfume, but only a light dab or spray. I want the smell to be a hint, not to take over. For special occasions I have the body cream, deoderant and the perfume and shower gel.

For men I love the smell of old spice original deoderant, the body spray or the aftershave, it takes me back to being a teenager. If a man walks past me smelling of it I could follow him round for hours, just sniffing and reminiscing. I buy it for John, thats the body spray and deoderant, he's not really one for aftershave.

I've never really been one for make-up as I prefer the natural look, I always feel sorry for a man who meets someone who looks stunningly beautiful because they have painted a picture on their face, and then when he actually sees her without it, runs for the hills. (My friend never manages to keep a man, and she is always perfectly made up, perfect clothes, not a hair out of place, and covered in flowery perfume) (In her own words, the only part of her thats not fake is her backside, and god was more than generous in that department, everything else is fake.) (False nails, plastered in make up, fake tan, padded bra, fake jewellery, false voice, etc but when we are on our own and there is no-one to impress she is a totally different person.)

I'm sure most men prefer hands on women who are not scared to break a nail or to smudge their makeup.

My very #1 all-time and forever favorite is TOVA Signature by Tova Borgnine (Ernest Borgnine, Acadamey Award winning actor, is her husband.) "The fragrance is a classic, clean and crisp with a top note of bergamot, descending into precious absolute jasmine. The middle notes of lavender and sandalwood brings the bouquet into full flower and a touch of musk adds to the clean sensuality. Due to the use of all the natural essential oils, whoever wears it feels that it becomes their signature." She has others in her line but TOVA's the best. You can click on the following link to check it out. I ordered it online from QVC, sight unsmelled I guess you could say, and I love it. It's fresh and clean and non-offensive.

http://www.beautyrep...t/tova_borgnine

After TOVA I have several I wear but not as often or with quite the results or pleasure!!

Youth Dew and Youth Dew Amber Nude - Estee Lauder
Beautiful - Estee Lauder
Pleasures - Estee Lauder
White Linen and Pure White Linen - Estee Lauder
Provacative Woman - Elizabeth Arden (really strong, good but have to go light)
Red Door - Elizabeth Arden
Topaz - Avon
Haiku - Avon
etc....

I also use several Bath and Body Works body sprays, lotions, bath gels, etc.

Brown Sugar and Fig (#1 and GREAT!!! You'll smell good enough to eat!! LOL Seriously it is great....!!)
Rice Flower and Shea
Lemongrass Sage
Coconut Lime Verbena
Moonlight Path
Pearberry
Warm Vanilla Sugar
Cherry Blossom
White Cherry Blossom
Cotton Blossom
and many more......

Deodorants:

Lady Mitchum
Suave
a good sale that doesn't stink LOL

As you can tell, I like to smell good (for myself, my b/f when I get to see him, and those @ me - people at work like to "smell" me from day to day LOL to see what I'm wearing. Smelling good makes a person, in my opinion, feel good, or at least better.

Enjoyed replying to this post....

Again, sorry for the morning sickness/dumbness

You should try "Today" in the Today/Tomorrow/Always line of Avon. Based on what you've described I think it might suit you. :yikes:

These are my favourites:

Acqua Di GIO by Giorgio Armani
L'eau Bleue D'issey by Issey Miyake

Deodorant: Crystal Deodorant Stone which is made of pure mineral salts.

I do not spay any Cologne on my neck, because I find the scent to be strong. So I spay once and it is on the belly area. I find the scent much more sutler this way.

Chili,

I heard those crystals work great but have yet to try them. I really cannot stand the scent of deodorants. I'd rather smell good elsewhere. Have you used the crystals for a long period of time? If so how long does one last? I know you have to toss them eventually and they are a bit pricey.

Hi Lune14

The crystal last well over 1/2 year. As for the price it is not that costly.

Another Vote for L'eau d'Issey Pour Homme although it's not an everyday thing for me. Everyday it's Radox shower gel - I'll occasionally use a deodorant spray but very rarely - as I've stopped sweating post SCI there doesn't seem a lot of point.

Isn't the trick finding that one scent that makes others comment on your scent? If you don't get comments that may be a bigger tell-tale.

I used to pass this man in the hall at work who wore Obsession for Men and just turn around and follow him just to breathe his scent for a few seconds. I personally adore a good smelling man.

My daughter's scent is Givency's Organza Indecence. It's wonderful on her but she didn't know it until we found it for her. SHE loved something else that really wasn't very attractive on her.

Mine is a knock off of Obsession but only a certain one. No one comments when I wear real Obsession but when I wear Mystic Impressions Obsession salespeople, waiters/waitresses, passerbys, friends comment on my scent. People identify it as Obsession. My boyfriend kept my a pillow that I laid on in a plastic bag because he didn't want it to lose my scent. (How romantic-the dog-but that's another story!)

Then I have a girlfriend who wears Obsession for Men. It's totally different on her than it was on that man that I followed around at work and it smells fabulous on her.

I think that you have to trust other people noses sometimes instead of what you think smells so great out of the bottle. Out of the bottle is totally different mixed with your chemistry and sometimes it's a little like looking for a needle in a haystack.

My favorite place to wear it-the back of my neck but just up into my hairline. It stays warm there.

During winters or cold season I wear Poison (Christian Dior), especially for "Christmas/New Year Parties",my birthday or any other celebration at night. During the day I prefer a softer scent, like Cool water (Davidoff)

Nina Ricci's L'Air Du Temps for summer or warm weather.
