Hi My name is Katie. My DH, Greg, was blown off a roof on Jan. 11 and fractured his L1 vertebre. We were in the hospital and told he was going to be a paraplegic for the rest of his life. He said No, I'll walk. He has fusion surgery on the 13th and all was well. We then went to the ReHab clinic and were there for about two months. He has done so well. He tried everything they asked, he got even stronger, and the first of March we were able to come home. Our house here was not livable for him, so we had to sell and buy a new one and remodel some of it. In the mean time we lived with my parents, who had just built their home and had made everything big enough for if in the event one of them had to be in a wheelchair someday down the round. (Blessings? Just one of the many we have seen.) So the construction company that Greg worked for came in and did the house...we were told 10 days and you can move in. Well, that was May...we moved in on Aug. 18th! B)
We had two boys and on the 1st of August we finally had our girl. I was pregnant through the whole ordeal, :boxing: And since her birth , like I said, we moved, our oldest started school, then I was to go back to work last week and Greg was going to watch the two younger ones. After the first day I saw it wasn't going to work, so now I plan to stay home.
There is a lot I want to chat about and am glad that I found this site. I hope it's helpful.

Hi Katie,
I'm Katie too and my husband had a bad fall April 9th 2005. He ended up quad. and I was thinking about going back to work for about a month but when he came home I knew it wouldn't be possible. I am a teacher and really miss my kids but things don't usually go as we would want them to with SCI.
Anyway welcome to the group. If I can answer any of your questions I will ok?
Take care, Katie.

Caregiver, wife to husband Mundo, c4,c5,c6,c7 incomplete. Since April 9, 2005.

Hi Katie. You've come to the right place. I was just injured in January, and out of all of the doctors I've talked to, and even with my amazingly supportive family, some of the best support I've recieved and witnessed has been on this sight. I am a single mother of two rambunctious little girls, and learning to do it from this chair has been tricky, but I've gotten some wonderful advice on that and on many other things from the people on here. Welcome!!

[size=7][b] What don't I love about my boyfriend? He is the most caring and understanding person I have ever met (....Sorry Mom, you are too, if you are reading this... :bye: :bye: ) To give just a little background on my story....

I met my bf Derek (C5 incomplete since 1997) on MySpace, he was from my area and sounded like a great person. Soon we began chatting online :type: and eventually on the phone. After about mmmm....a month or so we decided it was time to meet face-to-face. About 2 days before our meeting is when he told me that he was paralized. I always knew he sounded a bit different on the phone, he uses his cell phone on speaker to talk. Which kind of embarassed me because we had been talking for quite some time and I didnt know what I was saying could be heard by others. Oops. I don't know if he thought I would think differently about him (some people must be a bit petty)or why he decided to tell me before we met, but anyhow...it didnt matter to me. But actually it made him a bit easyier to pick out in the crowd of people at the tractor pull (I am a Wisconsin "cowgal") We haven't spent much time apart since. I think he was in shock when he finally met someone who accepted his "situation" (or so he calls it.) I think we make a lovely couple. And I am happpier than I have ever been! He sees the real me. He has the most WONDERFUL outlook on life, its incredible! He is my inspiration. And his handsome eyes and sexy smile help too. : ) Please, please if you have a loved one who is thinking just because they have to sit in a chair on wheels to get around, the chair will not stop them from falling in love, if it is truely the right person!!! Oh boy I could go on and on about Derek, but its getting late and I am new to this site, so Im not sure if Im even doing this right. Lol. To all who may (hopefully) read this...WARMEST HOLIDAY WISHES!! And if your from the south, please send me some warm weather....Wisconsin is for the birds! ~Cheri
