  • Spinal Injury Level / Relationship:L3 complete

Posted 17 September 2006 - 05:12 PM

Just read the article Simon posted in the library about injury levels.

I was told when I first had my injury that I was a T12. In fact for a few weeks, I had no sensation or movement below about pelvis/hip level. During rehab some movement/sensation returned, so I was then classed 'T12 incomplete'. I knew people at the time who were also classed T12 complete, who had their injuries at the same point on the body as me (the waist) and they never got any feeling/movement back below the hips. I still have a little numb line on my hips which was the lowest part I could feel initally.

I have now been classed as L3 complete (which looking at the pictures I certainly am). The root for L3 is at the same level in the body as the T12 vertebae. The explanation for the time for this discrepancy was that I was still growing when I had my accident, so things didnt line up as they do in adults.

So my question is..... how come the others with breaks at the same vertebra as me didnt get back hips/knees etc if that is where the L3 cord level is? Am I being really dense?!
