I got stung by a wasp on my middle toe about 2 months ago. Nothing happened for about a week, then it started getting a bit red and slightly swollen, then it spread to the toes each side and past the knuckles. I put this down to poor circulation and thought it would pass, but it hasn't. It's got worse.

Has anyone had anything similar?

That sounds suspiciously like it's an infection that needs antibiotics urgently - strongly suggest you see your doc.

It's not something for antibiotics as it's not an infection - antibiotics are the last course of treatment, not the first option - and I don't like popping pills. I'd rather do things to boost my immune system so it can deal with it itself. I've got my own Aloe Vera plant and smoother the area in fresh Aloe Vera morning and night, but this only helps the exterior, a little.

It must surely be something to do with slow circulation as it took ages to start flaring up and now taking ages to heal - it must be taking time to get the wasp's venon out of the area. I've had a look online for reactions to wasp's stings or what wasp's venon does to flesh/skin, but there's nothing there except things like allergies and basic treatment. I wonder what damage wasp's venon does...

I was hoping someone else had had the same problem and found a way to sort it, without hacking off the toe with an axe! lol

I think it's due to poor circulation.........i drove from perth to broome in a jeep and most of the time i had my bare feet resting on the car floor, not taking into account how hot the floor near the gear box gets :drive: after about 2 days in broome my boyfriend noticed a big clear blister on my heel..over the next couple of weeks it grew so it was covering most of the bottom of my foot and it had gone black  we raced off to the docs and he told me because i had such poor circulation it took along time for the burn/blister to come to the skin. It took FOREVER to go away as well. Thankfully i had no scarring on the bottom of my foot :drunk: But maybe that is similar to what you are experiencing, Dave???

Hi DaveP

Well there are lots of things you can take to boost circulation. Here are a couple:

My dad always said that when going out in the cold, that I should put cayenne pepper in my socks, which I do. Your feet and socks will get a little red, but it does work. This will help in poor blood circulation…… I checked the web for cayenne pepper and poor blood circulation, and found this website which it very interesting, as I just learned a little about Cayenne pepper myself and its healing properties. http://www.newconnex...1/capsicum.html

Ginkgo Biloba is another good herb for circulation. Just remember it takes months for this to really start to take effect. In fact never stop taking it. I've been taking this for years. I take it in a ticture form. It cost a bit more but it is worth it. Here is a website on this. http://www.localharv...tem.jsp?id=2768. There are tons on herbs out there that can help for improving circulation. If its possible get your legs messaged and stretch when ever you can. If the problem is still there, get to a doctor.

ThX for ideas - much appreciated.

It was definately a wasp - lovely yellow and black stripes and pulsating sack of venon at the end of the sting, which I pulled out. I thought my leg would've spasmed, but it didn't...

I had a cut on my foot years ago that took ages to heal, so know what it's like to have wounds on feet, but it never occurred to me about wasp/bee stings and poor circulation.

I need to find out if wasp venon actually does any long term damage to flesh. I'll do some searching online.

I too prefer to keep antibiotics for a life or death situation.
Have you tried CIDER VINEGAR? I take about 3 tablespoons every day for health benfits.
Quoting from "vinegar 1001 uses by Margaret Briggs (ISBN 1-86147-167-X)
Cider vinegar and blood- Cider vinegar helps with cleansing, the reintroduction of minerals as well as the clotting of blood. Oxidation of the blood is very important and cider vinegar is an effective treatment for this.
Cider vinegar is said to be very effective in detoxifying various organs in the body together with the blood stream. It is a purifier, as it has a means of breaking down fatty, mucous and phlegm deposits within the body, promoting the health of the vital organs of the body e.g. kidneys, bladder, liver etc., by preventing an excessively alkaline urine.
Cider vinegar also promotes digestion, and it neutralises toxic substances. CV has exraordinary potassium content which is essential for normal growth of the body and for replacing worn out tissues which depend upon the presence of this mineral.
Further health benefits are...

ARTHRITIS It dissolves the crystal deposits of uric acid that form between the joints ( also for muscular rheumatism)
BONES The manganese, magnesium, silicon and calcium found in apple cider vinegar have been linked in sustaining bone mass, which is important in the fight against osteoporosis.

Sorry if that ended up sounding like a lecture :drunk: but I can swear that I very rarely if ever suffer from colds or UTIs etc etc. I am hoping it will help with keeping my bone mass strong as a bone scan a couple of years ago did show my bones were not as strong as they might be.

So try it and see if the redness and swelling go down in your toes.

Very interesting - I'm definately going to try that. It's no hassle taking 3 table spoons of vinegar per day, so I'll get started on that tonight, after a trip to the supermarket.

If it gets any worse, I'm going to make my own version of a "Jackass" video of how to amputate a toe at home! lol

Hi Ladypilot!
that is relly interesting about the cider. My doctor has put me on 1 Alprim (antibiotic) once a day everyday and i've been on that since my accident in '99. Growing up on remote aboriginal communities and islands, i was constantly on antibiotics as the nurses there put you on them for EVERYTHING :doctor: so i'm now imune to all antibiotics except for alprim.
i might go off them and try cider instead
I hope it doesn't come to an amputation Dave, but i do love those jackass movies................ :yikes:

LadyPilot you are bang on about the Briggs Apple Cider vinegar. It is by far the best you can get for your health...DaveP there will be a very good chance that you will not find it in the food market, you more than likely will have to buy it at your health food store.. When you go to the food market do not buy just any apple cider vinegar on the shelve for that stuff is all filtered and is of no good. You have to buy the Briggs apple Cider vinegar because it has the mother in it. Read up on this cider and you will be amazed on the things it does for your body. Here is the Link: http://www.bragg.com...dervinegar.html

Thanks Chillepepper - What to do with my big bottle of Apple Cider bought in the supermarket last night! Salad dressings... lol

I emailed a doctor that has an interesting web site about wasp and bee stings and this is his reply...

"Wasp sting allergy is immediate. Very often the irritation from the venom
causes redness and flaking skin which will settle. There are no longterm
consequences and you should make a full recovery."

As the circulation in my feet is reduced, obviosuly it took time for the redness and flaking skin to appear, and will take even more time to disappear. I'm just glad the venon isn't doing any long term damage. it's just a matter of "hurry up and wait"!

The vinegar you bought is fine but it has less health benefits. It will still remove the toxins and flush your body, so dont think that you wasted your money! :mfrlol:

Not really much improvement, but the important thing is it's not going to get worse. It's very red now but as I've been putting fresh Aloe Vera cut straight from the plant, it's not cracking up. It njow looks like one of those red birth mark - not the darker brownish ones but those really red ones. I'll take a photo of my foot and post it on here over the weekend, just so you can see.

I'm just pleased I wasn't bitten by something with more and stronger venom, like a scorpion!

I'm not worried as I was told the venom won't do any long term damage and I'm keeping it moist so it doesn't crack up, but it doesn't lok very good! Wait till you see the pic!!!

As much as I'd like to share the outstanding good looks of my right foot, it's not going to happen. My camera is broken so can't take any pics, and now it's going thru' a weird process of "de-scaling" - I feel like a leper or snake sheading my skin! lol

Sigh... You really built us up for the big unveiling, DaveP! Figure we need a photo of something, so I offer up a third degree burn I received from a heating pad before I knew how severely I could be harmed. Now mind you the injury happened over a year ago...

Posted Image

Was using the heating pad to negate the neuropathic pain at the time. Suffice to say, I never used a heating pad again.

I can't be only one with marred skin. Anyone else care to share?

Ohh, if only I had a camera. I have had two bad 3rd degree burns since my injury on the top of my thigh. The 1st one was within a year of the injury and i was in Ag class at school using a welder. I was rolled up under the table and didn't think about the heat going through the table and then burning my leg below it. Had a spot about the size of a golfball pop up.

The 2nd one was just this summer in the swimming pool here in my apartments. There was a underwater light on the deep end, but being under water I never thought it would get as hot as it obviously does. I swam up to the edge of the pool to talk with my wife who was in a chair there reading. My leg was up against the light for about 20 seconds. About a hour later when I got back to the apartment I have a bubble about the size of a baseball popping up on my leg. That was about two months ago and it has mostly healed but still looks pretty damn bad.

I guess the good thing was that the 2nd one was exactly where the 1st one was so I don't have two big burn scars on the top of my leg.
