The Mother-in-law (MIL) had a stroke which sent her off to the hospital for a month+. That set my wife off because they are so close. The IL's were also moving from the farm into the city because they are too old to do that anymore. Well, the MIL is out of the hospital and slowly comming back to whatever speed she will obtain when the FIL went down for the count. He is currently in the hospital with a 50-50 chance of making it. Sorry to say, but he is not my best friend so I'm not upset either way. He can live his life, I just want to live mine. Too many issues to go into, but one included telling my wife to divorce me when I had my accident because I was useless as a man.
We also built a new home a year ago to accomodate my injury. The old house just did'nt do it. This has been the year of landscaping and basically roping every friend I have into grunt work to get it all done. Just about there.
Health wise I have been having a losing battle with pain. I'm slowly being chewed up and spit out. Does'nt seem to be anything the doctors can do to stop it. My pain is primarily neuropathic and has been getting worse for the last 3 years. No real reason. I attribute it to nerve regeneration (that's not supposed to happen) because I have never stopped getting increased feeling. It's very marginal, but I'm convinced I am still getting back some feeling long after that was supposed to stop. The increased feeling is not good. I always did notice more feeling when I was in severe pain....odd
I was in at a bladder specialist today. As some of you might remember, I had a UTI about 2 years ago. Up to that time I was happily doing 5 catheters a day (8-13-18-23-04:00). I am really ridgid in my cleanliness during a cath and had gone a long time with no UTI's. Since that UTI I have lost all bladder control. I still do caths, but I also have to use a condom cath for leakage. The specialist found no reason for my problem. As a result of this I have enrolled myself into a special trial. The trial uses botox injections into the bladder. The trial is just for longer term SCI's as there is some evidence that SCI's lose baldder control over time, faster than a normal person. In any event, the injections are supposed to relax the bladder muscles and seriously reduce leakage in these types of patients. Now I'm a guinea pig.
On the good side, the governement has decided to give me a powered wheelchair. Weee. Now I can go downhills. I always had a problem with that because I could not control my stomach muscles and it was always a decision to hold onto the wheels for braking, or holding onto the armrests for balance. I still intend to use the manual chair as I don't want to become reliant on the electric and lose any muscle tone. Still, I can go out for groceries. A real side benefit is the electric chair has a reclining back. When I recline it, I can get some weight off of my butt and that helps with the pain.
I will try to check in more often. I don't want to have you guys think I have died on you...
More later.

I do think you'll like the electric w/c, and I think you've a good idea to mix it up every now and then with the manual, or increase exercising of the upper body. I didn't want to 'like' my electric w/c too much either...so I refused to have ramps installed on my house. That way, I'm forced to don my trendy brace
I'm sorry to hear about the health problems in your family. I hope things begin to improve...for them as well as your pain. I was so hoping that you'd have hit upon a good mix by now. And I know you're probably sick to death of it, but don't stop searching...remain proactive. I've just got to believe that there's something out there that will give you adequate pain coverage.
So....are you lovin' your new home?
