Do you have lino type flooring?
If it only happens when you're indoors, it could be static electricity. If it happens when you're outside as well, it could be a fault with your chair if it's electric.
Autumn can be a bad time of year for static electricity.

I'd have someone check out your wheelchair, Paddy....just for peace of mind, if nothing else. Call the manufacturer or the place that provided your chair to you for starters.

might need some humidity as dryness will feed shocks when the weather's cold. Is worse if you've a negative ion air cleaner as well.
