  • Spinal Injury Level / Relationship:Friend of a C2 Quad

I'm one of a bunch of family and friends of a young man who fell from a roof a year and a half ago and is now a C2 quad. He's had a rough summer, with a number of lengthy surgeries to deal with some infection issues, and we'd like to do more to improve his quality of life -- and help lighten the load on his parents who are his fulltime care givers.

We'd like to get some ideas for things we can do that will help keep him engaged with the world around him. He's making pretty good progress with his eye gaze computer. He has a nice HD TV and an iPod. But he can't watch TV or listen to music all the time.

We found a used hospital van with a lift and had it rebuilt so he gets out and about from time to time. We also organized a team to receive physical therapy training so we can trade off giving him daily PT.

What else can we do that he might appreciate and that might help keep his spirits and his hopes up?

C2 is a pretty high level, so it's kinda hard to say what he may like due to lack of experience from that level.

Has he met anyone else with a similar level? That's usually helpful, someone he can truly share his frustrations with.

Have him post to these boards, that could be a start.

I'm C4/C5, so not nearly as severe. I use a voice activated (Dragon Dictate) notebook computer on an overbed table to read ebooks whilst I'm in bed or in the garden etc.

Hope this helps

Best of luck

Alan
