My father in law has recently been told he needs to start dialyis within three months. He is borderline stage 5 kidney failure with ESRD. Does anyone have any experience with dialysis? The doctor is recommending an AV fistula for hemodialyis, but this will pose a problem with transfering from wheelchair to bed, etc. and would leave him unable to do his own bowel programs. He would like to retain as much independence as possible . . . any other feasible options for dialysis?
