Hi, I'm off to Thailand on the 25th oct, and the insurance companies I've tried won't cover the Spinal injury or the the Colitis I've been diagnosed with exept 1 company. And the want just short of £1000 ($2000) !

Surly theres a company out there that specialises in disabled travel insurance?

I'll be going soon so any quick responses would be much apprieciated.

Cheers.

I've had good experiences getting cover from Tesco's in the past - At present I'm covered with the free insurance that comes with my Bank Account (HSBC) who have confirmed (in writing) that my paraplegia is covered.

My experience is that they shoudn't load the cover if you're SCI but will if you've had either a pressure sore or a UTI in the previous 12 months (at least that was with Tesco's) - My cover for a ski trip to the USA went up from about £80 to about £130 with a UTI in the previous 12 months.

Again only my experience's but the specialist disabled insurers were much more expensive than the mainstream ones.

Hi Lucky

I work with a UK insurer that specialises in travel insurance for disabled people, Global Travel Insurance. If you go to my homepage you can download a PDF file and file in your details and email it to them.

Hope this helps....

Try Sainsburys travel insurance.

I used them for my 6 week trip to New Zealand last year, and Barcelona and Lanzarote this year.

They were the best we could find, even after disclosing I am a C5/6 Quadriplegic, and we bought an annual family policy.

The policy premium for all three of us on a European annual policy with my Tetraplegia declared was £82.50.

The worldwide policy was about £160.00 I think, as I don't have the policy details any longer as I renewed it when it expired with just the European policy.

I have not used these firms but know of them
Chartwell insurance http://www.chartwellinsurance.co.uk/
Fish insurance http://www.fishadministration.co.uk/
Both claim to specialise in disability cover.
Good luck

used swiss life and global travel. european and world-wide.

what they look for is your medical records [pressure sores, UTI, etc.]. if you don't have anything serious in the record lately, most insurers really don't care about disability.
