Im getting really really sharp anal pain. Does anyone else have this? Its very sudden and intense, feels like someone has shoved a pair of scissors up my backside!!! Its so bad I end up stopping mid sentance when Im talking to someone, I just have to say 'Hang on a minute' and wait for it to pass. I quite often have to sit in a hot bath for an hour and this helps it subside.
I have a good bowel programme and dont generally have problems. I dont have haemorrhoids either ( too much information here!!). Im not taking any meds at all apart from antibiotics because of my pregnancy. So is this basically an anal spasm?

thanks
L

Could it be caused by your pregnancy??

So sorry to hear about your pain none of us need the pain we get, I think we have enough to deal with.
I get real bad pain at the tops of my legs when I need to go to the toilet, maybe this is your bodys way of saying you have wind or need the toilet. Sorry for sounding so personal wish I knew more to help. :dunno:
No injury is the same no matter what level but I think it gives you an insight and understanding to know what other people go through at all levels. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Lucy

I know you said you didn't have the H word but you may have the beginning of them because that's when they hurt like that and they may be internal and alot of manual stimulation will do that why don't you try the hemorroid cream and see if it helps because that shark's oil (the hemorroid cream) is great for your skin and healing anyhow.

Hope it helps

I have a very distinct pain in my anus region that feels like someone is trying to put a cell phone up there. My 1st thought was bowels, but i cant find a reason or and correlation between the 2.

The pain seems to come in 4 day waves and lasts for a day or two at most. The pain is also in my pubic region and all over my legs and feet. It often tricks me into thinking i have to use the restroom or do a bowel program, sometimes there is something in my bowel, sometime not.

In the hospital i was absolutely sure i was gonna piss or crap myself when these sensations came about. I was always wrong.

sorry to hear lucy,i too have pain in my butt:) [not reffering to the missus] but it is not sharp like yours, sometimes if i eat too many toffees or choccy and have a hard time doing the manual evacuations,i must irritate my anus too much and have to be careful
also when i wake up in the mornings i have very bad stomach aches and when i get up i pass a lot of wind [must be storing it up during the night] :P any movement causes it to escape and eventually my stomach settles down, all i can say is check it out,if you have a mirror have a look behind there and see if it is in any way red or sore looking, btw don't do this in public

That funny, not reffering to the missus :yahoo: Anyway i wanted to say that i get this at times lucydog and yes its horrible, my G/P says its because i have IBS ( Irritable bowel syndrome) so i have to watch what i eat and not allow myself to get constipated. Sorry not much help really as i don't have a SCI but thought i would share that .

I too have had this problem sometimes but I always described mine as feeling like I had a hammer shoved up my anus. I dont know what it is caused by, I didnt have hemroids and tried the cream anyways with no help. It wasnt that I need to have a BM because I had been regular and I took suppositories anyways with nothing being produced. I get this feeling off and on and it can last for several days and then I may not have it again for several more. I have no idea what it is but would love to know so I could either prevent it or do something to help with the pain when it comes.

Sorry I couldnt offer you any suggestions, just more sympathy.

I get a mild version of something maybe akin to this or relevant. For me it is a rush of tingling nerve firings (can be painful, can be like hair standing up on the back of your neck except all over & much more intense) and starts at my anus mostly and then rushes & sets off nerves wildly all up my body to sometimes above & sometimes below injury level, sometimes more front or back of body & sometimes more one sided or other. It was very uncomfortable in the beginning & still when it is really intense can make me almost cringe or brace against it. Emotions like sadness, compassion, empathy for others can set it off, something deeply touching in life or on TV. Other times it happens for no apparent reason. Perhaps if mine was more intense it would cause cold icy sweats or something else - but it is like a mad overstimulation of nerves. Not sure but wondering if maybe some people get one or the other of certain symptoms depending on our specific injury & its manifestation - maybe some get nerve activity that is around the anal area, some get it as pain, some as sweats, some as spasms. Seems related to me. I wonder if it is yet another of the central nervous system getting messages garbled type of things. Don't know if that helps at all.

I also get an intense pain in my guts sometimes that stops me mid sentence too & can't even breathe really until it has gone, only lasts for say 10 - 30 seconds, if it went on for too long i have imagined it would feel like it needed medical intervention urgently (but it helps knowing that it is not just me & that therefore it becomes less worrying & one just endures it) but is certainly like the scissors up the bum described by you & not bowel related either as far as i can tell. It is a relief to get to share & explore these things. Sorry to hear yours is so bad & takes so long to subside at times. i think it is a type of spasm, only my opinion or sense of it. I hope it gets better for you.
