My father is 82 years old, and when he was 76 he fell over backwards from a ladder. At the time, I x-rayed him (I am a chiropractor) and there where no fractures. In October of 2003 he was complaining of pain on palpation in his low back, I again x- rayed him and he had an almost complete compression fracture of L1. Also around October he started getting body chills 2-3 times a week, but now (May) they are constant. His MD has run every test imaginable and they are all negative (CBC, bone density, EKG) and they are stumped and are calling it an infection of unknown origin. I feel his autonomic nervous system control has been thrown off somehow. Has anyone heard of any thing like this? Any information would be most appreciated, my father's quality of life is in the toilet.

I suffered an accident in 1991 a massive fall of 45 ft, the hospital sent me home without treatment . Over the next six months I found walking difficult, no feeling in my toes, and chronic pain, I then had an x ray which showed up nothing, then another then another, then I had another which showed a fracture of the L5.

I was placed on traction given pain killers and after a year sent home, I started to have shivers and feeling very unwell, and slowly I was told I had damaged the nerves within my spinal cord and the nerves out side of the cord, I ended up losing my bladder and bowel control.

I still get shivers and then sweats which the doctors say is the body fighting the damage to the nerves in my spine, I will wake up in a cold sweat for no reason, I will shake and then shiver . I have had masses of tests and have been told it is the body just not able to understand why the nerves are not working.

Yes I believe the temperature problem could be due to damage or swelling affecting the sympathetic nervous system. Does he have other symptoms of dysregulation? I find Elavil and not stressing the area helpful

I obviously have not seen the pictures, but vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty may be the trick. At least look it up on the internet and see if it is something you would like to try. You can give me a call at 757-395-8086 if you have any questions.
