I'd appreciate any feeedback here from people around Australia and overseas.

Queensland recently enacted a new DSA Act which has turned the clock back nearly 20 years! There was a short period where the Qld Govt appeared to be moving towards individualised funding but now there is a big swwing towards block funding. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking billions of dollars when it comes to individualised funding here, just a few million.

Now I'm pro individualised funding because funds are allocated to an individual who usually let a service provider (usually profit driven) manage the funding budget, employment and the payment of support workers. Individualised funding is portable and the person with a disability can change service providers if they are not happy. Individualised funding allows people with disabilities to live in their owwn homes - not institutions.

Block funding means that a huge chunk of money is given to a service provider who has to make this funding stretch across X number of clients. If a client is unhappy with the service provider, too bad. They are stuck with a bad service.

What sort of funding is their for support workers for people with disabilities - overseas and interstate? :dunno:

Ta Vicki
