Hi! :bye:

As I've got older. I've been experiencing increasing pain in my shoulders. Most of it has been my Trapezius muscles and has increased as my scoliosis has got worse. It's very uncomfortable and makes alot of cracking noises, but I've been seeing the physio for it and it is usually better after a viscious sports massage! :D

However, recently my shoulder joints feel like they are grinding and almost coming out of their sockets slighly! I have been warned by various physios and OT's that my shoulders are likely to 'pack in' because of the way I do things, transfer and genrally put too much pressure on them, but I just did my normal thing of ignoring it and getting on with my life anyway.

I am attempting to apply to get a flat on the council and I will be adapting my car so it is easier to transfer but everything is taking sooooo long! I need to get a letter from my consultant explaining why moving is necessary on health grounds and for that, I need an appointment in the first place, but don't start me on that one! :)

Just wondering if anyone could offer me any advice on what I could do to help :D

Thanks everyone!

I've been getting pain and soreness in my shoulders due to pressure just laying on them. I started getting some pressure sores from sitting so I was laying down more to help that situation. I just started doing some rotator cuff exercises to help my shoulders. I've heard that keeping the rotator cuff in good shape will help keep the shoulders in better overall shape and minimize risks of injury.

I've also heard that taking glucosamine helps all the joints in the body.

Thanks for the question and the answers. I started not long ago with arm and shoulder pain which has gotten severe. I also have Carpal tunnel syndrome and Tendinitis so I though the pain could be radiating up my arm but not so bad that my shoulder was going to dislocate. Thanks for the imfo.

Hi,
Just an update. The 'grinding' has calmed down now. I've stopped using my other chair which meant doing alot more transferring and also reaching lower to push once I was in it. My Trapezius muscles (particularly the right one) are still all knotted, but it's not as bad as it was!

By the way, I have an appointment with my spinal consultant on Monday to discuss my scoliosis surgery and the second opinion I got so I'll let you know how that all goes.

Bye for now

I have tried many things for shoulders which are such a tricky joint to impact on. The only thing that i have found to definitely work & quickly is Emu Oil, available on the internet, say in 500 ml or 1 litre pump pack. Can rub it in to the joint, some people take as capsules but i prefer the local approach. For me it is quite miraculous. I use it wherever i have joint or pain problems. Hope all goes well. [PS it is made from emu fat, which some people might have a prob with; they are farmed emus where every last bit of whatever is used]

Hi, i forgot to also suggest magnets, i don't know how i'd get by without them. There are lots of different brands about, i tried one initially then friends lent me their Nikken ones which i then had to buy cause they were extremely effective - now they are on my bed (the mattress overlay with medcal type foam with silicone tips - first proper sleep in months when i got that in 2002), pillow, neck, low back & at the moment on my knee after a nasty fall. I really like the Nikken ones - they use a distributor network for selling in Oz, not sure in USA whether you can get directly on the net if you prefer. They aren't cheap but i think US are relatively cheaper than here because of bigger market. If you want any other advice about which ones i use for which body areas then just let me know. I haven't tried their shoulder wrap, my skin is very sensitive nowdays. I do use their neck wrap over clothes when i'm in lots of pain & it is excellent too. Lots to choose from. www.nikken.com

I've just had a look at that site & you can get a look at products, how you are meant to track down who to call from it i have no idea - maybe you are a better site navigator than me. I became a distributor / consultant so that i could buy the products cheaper for myself. I imagine the same in US. If you need me to call Nikken Aust to find out anything for you & eg tell you how to contact in USA then let me know. Good luck with pain relief.
Susie
